May I ask who built this and who invested in it and why it was built?

uff i guess it's not the best arena for ice hockey. Looks like visibility is limited on a stand behind the goal.

But it looks very nice, it's nice arena anyway.

What's the capacity?

Nah, it isn't. It's basketball/handball primarily
Yup, visibility is limited behind the goal, but it isn't that bad. (It isn't really Arena Zagreb view )

Here is arena scheme and view from seats with pricing.
IIHF wanted to close all stands with limited view, but Slovenian hockey federation said that it will sell those seats at lower prices.

Here is a view from 2A: Click and click. Photo courtesy of domzalcan

Capacity with this configuration is around 9900.

It's a shame that country with such a great hockey tradition build arena like this...

Not sure if provocation or not...

Anyway, it wasn't designed for hockey because old Hala Tivoli was planed for renovation and expansion. Tivoli would consequently become hockey-primarily arena, leaving Arena Stozice for basketball, handball, volleyball etc. With renovated Tivoli they would get something between 5.000 and 8.000(?) seats. More then enough what Ljubljana needs.

PS, same shame will also happen in new 1 billion $ Barclays Center in Brooklyn :/

I couldn't agree. If Slovenia wants to organize an Elite group ice hockey c'ships, I doubt this is enough. However, Arena Stozice would probably be OK, if the playground is lifted for a couple of meters.

Well IF we would bid for WC and IF we got it in next few years and with renovation and expansion in best case scenario it probably would be enough. (Last year's capacity in Slovakia was 9246 and 7628 source
Don't get me wrong, as a hockey fan I would sure love to see Lynx beat the crap out of the top world teams in front of home crowd
And must not forget that few days ago slovenian federation said that they couldn't organize elite divison in Stozice:/ Nor there was ever in history an arena without constant ice making machine.

But when it comes to Tivoli and to EBEL and domestic championship it's more than enough when you look at the average attendance
(Or am I wrong? I am fan of the red north, so I visit Tivoli only on derbies )

The absence of constant ice in Stožice is the biggest problem, I think that is what HZS and IIHF ment. I hope we will not wait too long for renovation of Tivoli. With some luck, Jesenice will be renovated within a year or so.
