Exclamation What happened to Kaohsiung 85 Sky Tower?

This is the scariest building to visit. Because you press an elevator button, and some floors are completely dark because they're not occupied and no one care to shut them down properly.

I was there last month (Sept 2015), and before that, in 2001. What happen to this building in last 14 years? Is it 90% empty right now?

Floor directory in 2001:
77-79 Palace Club
76 Sexy Disco Bar
75 Steak House Restaurant
74 Observatory
46-70 Hotel Guest Rooms
38-45 Ballrooms & Hotel Facilities
13-35 Offices / Business Suites / Condos
12 Nikko Plaza
8-11 Magical Carnival Indoor Amusement Park
1-7 Chien Tai Dept Store
B2 Food Court

Floor Directory in Sept 2015:
77-79 Palace Club
74 Observatory
46-70 Hotel Guest Rooms
38-45 Ballrooms & Hotel Facilities [half of them are dark]
1 Jewelry Store

75F steak house restaurant is shut down. The door is not locked however, inside is completely dark. 76F "Sexy Disco Bar" is closed. On 75F there is wooden door blocking the staircase to 76F, but you can peek through a crack and see the stairs covered with thick dust.

74F observatory is almost empty in spite of cheap (150 NTD) admissions fee.

The giant atrium from 45 to 85F, they install curtains and tinting around the glass so it's much harder to see into the atrium. Probably to hide how many floors are not occupied.

The hotel was very empty and half of ballroom floors are completely dark. 38F restaurant floor was also completely dark.

I didn't see any mention of condos or office in floor directory (13-35F in 2001), are they still open?

Looks like Magical Carnival (8-11F in 2001), the Dept Store (1-7F in 2001) and under ground food court have been shut down, the only thing that remains is jewelry store on 1st floor and the dept store atrium is completely dark.

What happened to this building? It's like Empty State Building in 1930s or worse?

not surprising because it's a butt ugly monstrosity designed by that taiwanese architect taiwanese people worship - c.y.lee. a lot of the buildings he designed eventually fail financially.

They need to find a whole solution for this big thing... This building ist so ugly that it is getting nice XD

They might renovate it completely and put in a huge medium budget hotel with a bunch of restaurants

It is not empty!!
The 85 sky tower hotel and many other condos and B&Bs still occupy the major part of this buildling.
Kaohsiung is a city of freedom. People are assumed not to do illegal trespassing. But it is a shame that someone said that is scary or creepy after they entered the unused land or property without permission.

It is true that it is not empty!!
See these photos at 9PM on Apr 02, 2017

I can't believe something this iconic isn't raking in high rents. Whenever I think of Kaohsiung, what I think of is this tower and Xinzuoying Station. Both such imposing, almost retro-futurist structures.
