Aliens are attacking! Aliens are attacking!

This is a render of Selfridges:

No source I'm afraid, it's from Skyscrapercity posted without a reference.

Sellfridges was Future Systems design. The guy who ran the practice was Czech Founder Jan Kaplicky and I went to an exhibition of his works in DOX arts/design museum (in an area which is kind of like the Docklands of Prague next to the Vltava River in a former industrial area). The model took pride of place in one end of the exhibition hall. Sadly no cameras allowed so no pics but it was a major eye opener.

I always remember when we had a glimpse of the Selfridges proposals , and I for one was underwhelmed and didn't expect too much .When they finally started to peel away the covering,I remember how excited we were on the forum especially the dramatic contrast with the neighbouring church ; an instant success and a fantastic plus for the city .

This has probably been asked a thousand times, but will they ever bridge the gap between the two third floors do you reckon? Second floor is fine (makes sense) but I could imagine a bridge going between the two upper sections if the centre is ever refurbished in the future. Is there a reason this wasn't done? It would really ease congestion.

I don't think it was done because of the entrances to Rotunda Square, not many people go over Selfridges side third floor though so I don't think they would waste time/money doing that

The gap was left to leave a clear line of sight to both the rotunda and st martins church, it's unlikely to ever go ahead, spiceal st had the canopy knocked back as it would block views of st martins.

It's also good they dot connect up in my opinion, drives people to walk outside at upper mall and out into rotunda square.

Wish apple would take up the fcuk unit help even out the footfall better...

I too am glad there is no connection with the third floors, would look horrible and really spoil views of St Martins.

I definately understand your points. Congestion inside the Bull Ring gets insane though as everyone is forced onto the one set of escalators.

I hadn't considered the views sorry. Typical outsider.

Wish they'd do something with the top floor on that unit. It's so obvious that it's empty and it takes the shine of the main entrance to the complex just a little.
