No word about who makes these trains, how many trainsets were bought and for how much?

There is no separate thread about Sofia's metro system. We usually discuss it in the Sofia - construction thread.

That`s why nobody knows about SOFIA Metro!

I`m really disapointed from the moderator who merged my new Sofia Metro thread with the old Sofia public transport one.

Tell me why??

Sofia Metro deserves it`s own thread as Athens Metro does...

Sofia is one of the worlds first cities to have tram system more than 100 years and it has too compound transport system.

Don`t merge Sofia Public Transport/SKGT with Sofia Metro/Sofia Metropoliten cause they are completely different things!

Actually, Sofia has all kind of transport except water one and even we expected to have it in the communist time.

I hope to see this Sofia Metro thread alive again cause Sofia transport deserves it!

Sofia is the 14-th largest EU city and EU is ~600 mln.!

Don`t forget it! Sofia Metro is getting more and more important!

Thanks in advance!

IMO Sofia Metro is over 80% of its lenght underground. It`s above the ground only where is a bridge or in the end suburbs.

Vasil Levski Stadium station is aproximately 120 m. under ground level, because of underground water.

Obelya station is above ground. I mean..let's say 7-8 meters above ground.

BTW do you know about plans to connect trains to Pernik with the subway? I've read something about that. This will be the very beginning of something like the Paris' RER system. Do you know when are they going to start this (if they will ever do that of course)?

Obelya is an end suburb and it`s normal for there as i sad .

Yeah, I know about Pernik`s future junction to Sofia metro system.

To those who don`t know Pernik is a 100 k city which is very close to Sofia with less than 10 km distance between their suburbs!

Sofia metro is spreading very fast and I am disapointed of seeing it without it`s own thread here!

The line between Pernik and Sofia will be served by the new Desiro trains of BDZ. Very soon the connection between the railroad system and the metro system will be completed. New train station will be constructed above the Vardar metro station.
More info..the National Stadium station is 20 metres under ground level , not 120. The metro on its way to the airport will be above ground.
The sections which are no under construction will be finished in the end of 2008, and than there is need to test the system for 3-4 months. So in the beginning of 2009 the new 6 stations will be operational.

When I first visited Sofia, at the age of 15, I was very impressed by the trams. This means of transport was a novelty for me back then. Thatís why I rode them a lot in the few days I stayed in the city, without ever bothering to buy a ticket.

Unfortunately a female ticket inspector asked for it. I started speaking in Greek and she left me alone, without fining me. Tourists were a valuable source of foreign exchange, so Bulgarians were lenient towards them.
