Fly540

OK, Taveta Airport was an April Fool Joke

But after 2007 PEV, people in Western Kenya have learnt to fly

This good news for air travel potential... you can now fly to Kachmega

On Sunday they have an evening flight (Return to Work)

http://www.fly540.co.uk/news/fly540-...twork-in-kenya

Fly540 is operating flights between Kakamega and Nairobi

The latest information coming from the region’s first true low-cost, low-fare airline, Fly540, now indicates that they will link Kakamega in Western Kenya to their growing domestic network, opening up Western Kenya more for tourism purposes and also for business travellers.
Fly 540’s flights to Eldoret, Kitale, Kisumu, and now Kakamega will offer a swift access for tourists wanting to see "Obama’s roots in Kenya," as his paternal village is just a few kilometres outside Kenya’s lakeside city of Kisumu. Flights to Kitale offer easy access to Mt. Elgon National Park and nearby game reserves, and their latest addition of Kakamega will bring the Kakamega Forest nearer, too.

The Kenya Tourist Board has, in the recent past, created additional circuits in parts of the country less visited by overseas tourists. The added airlink will undoubtedly entice tour and safari operators to be more proactive when promoting these novelties and offering tours and safaris to Western Kenya.

More and more tourist visitors are now using air services to the national parks to spend time in the parks as opposed to spending time on the roads to the parks, a sensible choice when time in the destination is limited and visitors wish to see many of the country’s highlights.

The aircraft used on the Kakamega route will be a Beechcraft 1900 or, depending on demand, a Bombardier Dash 8, which are also used for the newly-added, off-peak flights to the coastal destinations of Mombasa and Malindi and, of course, to Lamu.

Flights to Kakamega

Daily:
Mon-Sat Nairobi - Kakamega 0700 0750
Sun Nairobi - Kakamega 1600 1650

Mon-Sat Kakamega - Nairobi 0815 0900
Sun Kakamega - Nairobi 1715 1800

Big news for Fly540:

Fly540 Kenya expands international options with Qatar Airways deal
Breaking Travel News
10 June 2013
Quote:
Fly540 Kenya has announced the expansion of its flight network with the signing of its first international interline agreement with Qatar Airways.

The agreement will begin with an inbound interline service for passengers arriving in Kenya.

Under the terms of the agreement, Qatar Airways’ passengers will be able to connect with a Fly540 Kenya flight at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi and fly to destinations within Fly540 Kenya’s network using one itinerary.

This will ensure that passengers have seamless, through-baggage and hassle-free onward connections to some of Kenya’s most beautiful destinations, including Eldoret, Kisumu, Lamu, Lodwar, Malindi and Mombasa and also across the border into Juba and Zanzibar.

Qatar Airways operates double daily flights between Doha, capital of the State of Qatar, and the Kenyan capital. Passengers can connect over Doha to and from key cities across Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific.

Qatar Airways is one of the fastest growing airlines in the world, and has seen rapid growth in just 16 years of operations.

It has a modern fleet of 124 aircraft regularly flying to 128 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and the Americas.

Qatar Airways’ choice of Fly540 Kenya as a key interline airline partner reflects the Doha-based carrier’s on-going investment in East Africa as a strategic region.

Being the first interline agreement between the two airlines, it will provide Qatar Airways’ passengers with direct access and quick transit times to a range of destinations that were not previously accessible through a single itinerary.

“We are delighted to have signed this interline agreement with Qatar Airways, which is our first such agreement,” said Don Smith, chief executive, Fly540 Kenya.

“This deal expands our flight network beyond Africa and to a key growth-area of the Middle East.

“We feel honoured to have been selected to partner one of the world’s premier airlines, which reflects the strength of our offering in Kenya, and we look forward to welcoming Qatar Airways passengers onboard.”
