My photos of JLT from May 2015

I managed to have a nice stroll through JLT during my recent visit to Dubai & it was very impressive to. Apart from constantly getting told off by security guards ( ) I still managed to take quite a few photos

For other photographers . . . The security guards indicate no photography is allowed & a permit is needed from Almas Tower DMCC counter. I popped into Almas Tower & the manager on the desk was very helpful, he said no permit was required unless it was professional photo shoot incl models etc being used. He kindly picked up his radio & told the site security staff to stop bugging me

Almas Tower is by far my favourite but the whole area is fantastic now there are plenty of completed zones & nice landscaping as you can see on some of my photos (it was around 40 0C so there are not many people around )

Great job, man! Was the 8th picture a left-side crop of a much bigger landscape-oriented one?

Unfortunately not, there was a little more of the sandy coloured tower on the left in the picture but when I straightened up the perspective it was cropped out, the right hand side is more or less as captured.

I do have a similar photo a little bit further round the lake but with a wider landscape aspect, but I spoil the view LOL

Hang out in JLT?

- Healey's terrace at Bonnington Hotel for a good draft beer with a great view
- UBK garden for cheap beer and bad service (Movenpick hotel)
- Blue Sapphire (cluster I) for decent chinese food
- Gramo pizzeria, cluster F, for having a pizza with a nice seating (take the swing tables outside)

Hanoi for cheap, slightly above-average Vietnamese food.
Little Bangkok for Thai.
Innlay for very cheap, very good South East Asian food (25 Dhs upwards for a main course including rice).
G's for awesome cakes, pastries, bread and cheapest coffee in JLT.
Gramo for Italian food.
Allons-y for homecooked lunch by some nice French ladies.
Marco Polo Espresso or Caffe Trieste for coffee.
Scafé for fine dining at a very reasonable price.
Wokyo for Subway-style noodles (i.e. choose your own ingredients).
Labby's Hellenic House for Greek food.
Golositalia for ice cream.
Hako Sushi for passable sushi.
Flames for Indian food.
Pressman for sandwiches.
Tantuni for Turkish street food.
In The Hair for cheap haircuts with free head massages.

I think that just about covers the places I frequented when I worked in that side of JLT!

Interesting news: Paramount will be doing some filming here for a Sci-Fi movie.. no names shared yet, and we are unlikely to recognize JLT as we know it in the final edit, and its not supposed too be about Dubai,..but still a cool development..

Hemelboorder" You are right about UBK and bad service (Movenpick hotel).

I might also add that I find them to be a bit discriminatory

Good news on the food front, Cafe Betawi just opened in Cluster D next to the Just Falafel. This is the multi Timeout award wining Indonesian cafe which has existed in Karama for many years..

Definitely check it out!

Maple Leaf - Canadian Deli style sandwiches and Poutains on Cluster V + delivery the food is fantastic.

Little Bangkok is terrible the food is bland and tasteless wouldn't fee it to a stray dog

Try Betawi then mate, I was there for Iftar the other night and the place was packed.. given that its only open since 2 weeks thats quite unique for JLT, even most established places are half full at best.

I'd put some toilet paper in the fridge if you're going to Betawi!
