Decongesting the 2 routes to ITPL/EPIP

Request the moderators to move this thread out if it is in an inappropriate section.

Purpose of this thread is to obtain feasible solutions from the very knowledgeable individuals who contribute with very good updates on Bangalore infrastructure. This is very specific to bottlenecks faced by people while travelling to ITPL/EPIP.

1. Marathahalli bridge
2. Kundalahalli gate
3. Graphite India signal
4. KR Puram

Could you please share insights into any small steps that might help in reducing the travel times at these junctions? I'm trying to get the attention of local legislators. Please note that I'm incapable of pushing for long term solutions (like flyovers).

Hence looking for smaller things that can be done - these should be specific to a particular junction and could help in easing traffic. Steps which could be implemented in 3 to 4 weeks (assuming BBMP decides to act).

We had discussed about this plan from Aneesh, some time back.

This however requires KIADB to give up some of it's prime land and acquiring land from Graphite India...

This way, the junction can be closed for the construction of the metro viaduct and the junction made signal free..

Maybe this isn't the right place to post this...

closing an existing junction is a joke. better is to make roads one way... like above green and yellow roads can be made one way so that it will be a roundabout

Panathur road

In my view the best way to decongest is to make sure all traffic coming from silk board to move through the panathur road and varthur bridge to get into whitefield. But the current stretch of road connecting ORR to varthur is not good for vehicular movement. This could be a long term solution.

I travel on these Junctions daily and Fastest Solution for all this can be following

1. TAR the Whitefield road, It is heavily potholed,(Hanuman Temple to Graphite India and Beyond) This can save some mins of travel time.

2. Remove the electric Poles at either end of ITPL Main Road at Graphite India Junction and Make Free Left to people coming from ITPL to Whitefield Road and a Free Left to Whitefield Road to ITPL Road.

3. Tar the roads which Run Behind the Graphite India(1st Cross, 2nd Cross, 3rd Cross, 2nd Main, 3rd Main), These roads lead to 2 exit points Chinappanahalli Road-->ORR and Dr Muni Reddy Road--> ORR
+ Make the 2nd Cross and 3rd Cross 1 Way.

4. TAR Chinappanahalli Road and Muni reddy road. There is a Horrible Dig-up by BWSSB on the Muni Reddy road ~300m from ORR which Serves as choking point for most traffic. also the Chinappanahalli road has a Lot of Choking points due to potholes.

These won't help for a great deal But reduce the Total Chaos at Kundanahalli Gate + Marathalli Bridge and Graphite India Junction.

Thanks for those different viewpoints on solving this problem (short term). Question to you (other than TheMask) - Do you think the 4 suggestions in TheMask post (which are more feasible) will result in some savings in travel times? I would think so but your inputs will definitely help.

There have been 100's of articles everyday, But I am not sure anyone reads them rather than the frustrated people who use this stretch.

Make CM+Mayor+Representatives of area Travel on the road on a BMTC bus for a Week. We may possibly have a solution sooner than expected.

I commute from Bannerghatta Road to EPIP and I believe the suggestion given by TheMask will work very well for the near term.

The only long-term solution is to build metro on the stretch (planned in ph-2). Road widening /improving /flyover etc will all be short-term solutions. With metro, commuters will have the option of reaching destinations in time without traffic delays. Those who still want to use their cars can do so, but run the risk of huge traffic pile-ups.
