Wait for the elusive beast early morning at the bus depot?

Then you mount and ride on it! Woohoo!

Slightly off topic but broadly related: cross-posted from the bicycling thread about LinkBike at Penang.

Installation of LinkBike station at Queensbay Mall. by lizardboi_88, on Flickr

The aspect I found the most interesting about it is the modular design and installation with components comes in boxes. Judging from the wording the box, it seems to be Made in China.

One immediate concern though: while the stop is indeed right in front of the mall, it's actually detached from the dedicated cycle lane travelling along the coast and as you might be able to see from here, the surface of that pedestrian isn't the best and there are a couple of metal ditch grill cover along the pedestrian path. Furthermore, that stretch of road in front of Queensbay is fairly notorious for its illegal roadside parking hence navigating the bike to road can be a challenge. Hopefully these issues can be sorted out by law enforcement, mall management and city council before it is officially operational.

Penang International Airport's Q1 passenger figures surprised everyone

The increase in the total number of passengers handled at the Penang International Airport for the first quarter of this year compared with the corresponding period of 2016 surprised even the state government despite the latter's incessant efforts in promoting tourism.

This was stated by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng after he had graced the unveiling ceremony of The Light City on May 9, which is the 4.1 million sq ft integrated waterfront development in Penang expected to be completed by 2021.

“Penang is garnering international attention as a destination for tourists. Recently in CNN's list of 17 of the best places to visit in the world, Penang came out number two.
For the first 3 months of 2017, passengers at the Penang International Airport grew from 1.57 million passengers for Jan-March 2016 to 1.98 million for Jan-March 2017, a surprising 26% growth,” he said.

“We hope the federal government will look at it (the expansion of the existing airport in Bayan Lepas) from the national perspective by approving (the expansion). There is communication between the state and federal governments on this matter and they are positive in their tone but it is more important to put pen to paper. The present site has more than enough land for the expansion of the airport,” added Lim.

Meanwhile, the integrated waterfront development project just beside the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway is a result of the joint venture between IJM Corporation Bhd and Perennial Real Estate Holdings Limited and will comprise the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC), two luxury hotels, residential towers and a 28-storey high office tower.

The chief minister had earlier, in his speech, remarked on the suitability of the PWCC, which features state-of-the-art facilities that will serve as a game changer for the state and boost tourism and economic growth.

“The Penang Waterfront Convention Centre will help position the state as the centre of attraction for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE), The Light City will also include a retail mall which offers a whole new retail experience and two new hotels,” Lim said.

Also present during the ceremony were Deputy Chief Minister (I) Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, exco member for Youth & Sports, Women, Family & Community Development Chong Eng, Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari, IJM Land Berhad managing director Edward Chong, IJM senior general manager for northern region Datuk Toh Chin Leong and Perennial Real Estate Holdings Limited CEO Pua Seck Guan.

Kuching LRT = RM20 Billion
Bayan Lepas LRT = RM7 Billion

Sarawak has plenty of land to build dedicated bus lanes at a much cheaper cost as compared to Penang where we don't have the same advantage. That's why we need LRT more.

good to see Penang leading in something as always its time to shift people's attitudes that lean towards buying cars instead of alternative transport... unlike some city far south where cycling can get you killed

more than 30 mins wasted going from port Klang to KL!

Compared to Penang Port, Georgetown is right at the doorstep!

Maybe a HSR link should be enough to shorten the time between KL and Klang port for the tourist

I think some kind of KTM limited express that only stop at a few station from KL to klang would do the jobs.

having said that, I hope KTM can built more station in Penang and even Ipoh and run some kind of rapid transit system of some kind.

but then again. we are talking about KTM

if they want to build a third bridge, I would like to see a multi-level bridge being constructed (it would be the first multi level bridge in malaysia?)
