Maybe it's time to harvest profits and sell SM stocks. The retail bubble will burst very soon. Too many malls already.

That's the problem with many of our local businessmen. Many are into the same thing - malls and condos.

Just like in our typical barangays. You can see several sari-sari stores along the same street. Lack of uniqueness or innovation when it comes to business ideas.

Too many malls already. That's what many of us have been saying all along.

SM also doesn't construct large malls lately but prefer buying old ones (Megacenter, Mindpro) or investing in community malls instead (Citymall, Waltermart)

The "retail apocalypse" in the US. More than 8,000 stores could close this year. Will this happen here in the Philippines in the foreseeable future?

Agree. Online shopping trend is on the rise and may render some malls obsolete, esp the smaller ones. But I believe it will take some time to make a hard dent on the PH retail scene because malls here take the place of parks and development of public spaces are maneuvered by private companies, not the government unlike in progressive countries. Mao ni nga aspect nga lingaw kau the likes of SM and Ayala

I think not in the near future. Pinoys go to malls for the AC, and basically for us in the Philippines, there's really not much of an option. Going to the park is too damn hot and humid.
