Contractors to renew bond bids for Guggenheim Abu Dhabi

The news comes after Sufian Hasan Al Marzooqi, chief executive officer, Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), confirmed in April that the museum was not on hold.

“The commercial bid was submitted long time ago. It was verified and discussed, but there was no outcome from the client.

“However, they asked us to renew the bid bond three weeks ago and we have renewed our bid bond,” a senior executive with one of the bidding companies was quoted saying, according to Arabian Business.

“The tender bid bond has been renewed three times,” he said, but admitted he wasn’t aware of when the contract will be awarded.

In March 2011, a coalition of 130 artists said they were boycotting the Abu Dhabi Guggenheim on Saadiyat Island over complaints about the working conditions of foreign labourers, following which the development was on hold.

TDIC invited contractors to pre-qualify for the main contract to build the Guggenheim museum in August 2013.

TDIC is developing the Guggenheim museum, whilst Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority will operate and manage it.

In July 2006, TDIC announced that it had signed an agreement with the Solomon R Guggenheim Foundation in New York City to build the 320,000m2 Guggenheim Museum on Saadiyat Island.

Upon completion, it is scheduled to be the largest of the Guggenheim museums. Architect Frank Gehry was appointed to design the structure.

The museum will have 13,000m2 of gallery space, 18,000m2 of exhibition space, a 350-seat theatre, a library, a research centre, food and beverage outlets, and retail centres.

Abu Dhabi's TDIC may offer affordable housing on Saadiyat Island
Tourism Development and Investment Company to review its mid-income housing plan

Abu Dhabi's Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) is reviewing its mid-income housing strategy and may look into getting into affordable housing segment on Saadiyat Island, according to its chief executive officer.
“Other developers are considering that mid-market segment and we are also reviewing our mid-market strategy,” Sufian Hasan Al Marzooqi told Arabian Business, referring to Saadiyat Island.
The announcement comes after Aldar Properties announced The Bridges, a six-tower mid-income housing project, on Al Reem Island.
Al Marzooqi also revealed their plans to conduct a feasibility study on affordable housing.
“We will are going to commence a study on the affordable housing market and will decide our strategy thereafter,” he added.
TDIC is currently building three residential projects – $327 million (AED1.2 billion) Mamsha Al Saadiyat and $101 million (AED370m) Jawaher Saadiyat golf villas on Saadiyat Cultural District, and a townhouse development on the Saadiyat Lagoons District.
Construction work on Mamsha Al Saadiyat and Jawaher Saadiyat are 30 and 22 percent complete and are expected to be completed by end-2018.
The mid-market projects are priced between AED2.5 million and AED3 million.

Mamsha Al Saadiyat and Jawaher Saadiyat to be opened next year

The Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), a real estate company owned by the government of Abu Dhabi announced that all their projects are on track with construction activity in full swing.

Speaking to reporters at Cityscape Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, chief executive officer of the company Sufian Hassan Al Marzouqi said Mamsha Saadiyat with 241 residential apartments is 30 per cent complete whereas Jawaher Saadiyat with 83 units is 20 per cent complete.
The company’s other project Saadiyat Lagoons is in a tendering stage.
Mamsha Al Saadiyat overseeing the beachfront is close to Guggeinham, Louvre and Shaikh Zayed museums, he said.
“The project is under construction and is set to be opened in June 2018. The total investment in the project is Dh1.2 billion and has apartments ranging from one to four bedrooms with retail space for food and beverage outlets.”

Jawaher Saadiyat is a golf community project consisting of townhouses and six bedroom villas. The total investment in the project is Dh370 million and is expected to be opened in August 2018.
Al Marzouqi said the third project of the company — Lagoons — will be a mid-market housing project with prices ranging from Dh2.6 million to Dh3.9 million per unit.
More than 800 townhouses will be built as part of the Lagoons project, he said.
“We are reviewing mid-market segment as there is a high demand. That’s an area where we want to tap in like other developers. We are conducting a study on affordable housing to take up more projects.”
Speaking on Abu Dhabi’s property sector, he said it is going through correction and the outlook is positive.
“In real estate you have to go through this otherwise something is wrong. The property sector is in a correction stage and we are positive about the sector.”
On museum projects of the company, he said Guggeinham is not on hold and Louvre will be handed over to Tourism and Culture Authority of Abu Dhabi this year. He did not specify the date when Louvre would be handed over to TCA.
The real estate company also launched a premier selection of residential units across three projects on Saadiyat Island under a new flexible payment schedule on the first day of Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2017.
Potential investors and homeowners can secure their unit with a deposit of 2.5 per cent of the unit sales price for the 50 apartments available for purchase in Mamsha Al Saadiyat, the company said.
The same terms have been extended for 29 contemporary villas on sale in the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club-facing Jawaher Saadiyat, as well as more than 30 units in Saadiyat Lagoons.

As usual, I expect Abu Dhabi to scale down on this project after someone does the study and tells them there is no demand for this grandoise version!!
