Trivandrum is the place to grow - വളക്കൂറുള്ള മണ്ണ്: Celebrities

Rasana, TV Fame

It was her dream to own a house in Trivandrum, the city made her celebrity. The dream come true as she recently bought a Villa in Thiruvallam.

From latest edtion of Manoram Sambadyam

Anoop Menon

“I’m not a Trivandrumite by birth. Actually I hail from Calicut. Trivandrum is my foster city but the closest to my heart. Ever since my childhood, I have been living here and it wouldn’t be too much if I say, I suppose, that I’ve grown to become a Trivandrumite. I owe it to Trivandrum for making me what I’m right now,” he says. “That is, if I can claim to have become a recognizable person now.”

“If I had not come to Trivandrum, I would not have stepped into cinema. I mean, cinema belongs to, and always belonged to Trivandrum. It took roots here with the likes of Prem Nazir, Priyadarshan, Mohanlal… all hailing from this city. Not to forget the video shops and theatres like Sree Kumar/Vishak and Padmanabha, which were my favourite haunts and which still are. Trivandrum planted the seeds of cinema in me and I had to nurture it.”

Trivandrum Is The Place To Grow Up: Muthukad

Years later the Malappuramkaaran (native of Malappuram) reached Trivandrum because of one man. Malayattoor Ramakrishnan. Muthukad would fondly reminisce the beginning of their friendship. “I love literature and writers. So I have this habit of forcing myself on writers. That is how I met people like ONV Kurup. Then one day, when I was chatting with writer Chemmanam Chacko, he got a call from Malayattoor Ramakrishnan. So I grabbed the chance to meet him and I performed magic for him. When I went home to Malappuram there was a letter from him saying that we have to meet again.”

That was only the beginning. Their friendship grew strong enough to bring Muthukad to the capital city, and together they launched Magic Academy in 1996. Malayattoor was the chairman and Muthukad, the executive director. Fourteen years later, the academy is known worldwide. This year it crossed yet another milestone by conducting the first magic convention for women. It was under the interest of this great magician from Kerala that women magicians from all over the world gathered in Trivandrum to show the world that magic was not meant exclusively for men.

Raj News Malayalam is expected to go on air in the first week of May 2011

The TV news channel market of Kerala is gearing up for new players entering the domain. While a few months back Mathrubhumi News had announced its entry in the genre, now South Indian broadcasting group Raj TV has also forayed into the Kerala market. The channel is expected to go on air in the first week of May 2011.

For its operations in the Kerala market, Chennai-based Raj TV has tied up with Grand Kerala Broadcasting Ltd. John Samuvel will be the Chief Editor for Raj News Malayalam.

Speaking on the development, Noushad Thottunkara, Chairman, Raj News Malayalam, said, “Raj News Malayalam is going to hit the entire traditional channel outlook and will bring about a new era in news, entertainment and knowledge.”

Meanwhile, AK Meera Sahib, Managing Director, Raj News, commented, “Through this new channel, we can expect a new variety of entertainment programmes and impartial, independent true stories from all around the globe.”

The official inauguration of the studio and headquarters of Raj News Malayalam took place on March 28, 2011 at Thiruvananthapuram. The function was inaugurated by Anarath Ammed Haji, Vice Chairman, Raj News Malayalam, and Chairman Century International.

The new channel, which is said to be a news and entertainment channel, did not disclose any details about the percentage division of news and entertainment content. Raj News Malayalam will be using 3G-3D system telecasting of news. The channel is also concentrating on the Malabar region, where there aren’t any other major channel offices so far. Besides, the channel is committed to set up news bureaus in all districts of the state as well.

It may be recalled that Mathrubhumi, the second most read Malayalam daily of Kerala, had announced in December 2010 that it will launch a 24-hour Malayalam news and current affairs television channel – ‘Mathrubhumi News’ in Kerala.

The newcomers will face stiff competition from already established players like Asianet News, India Vision, People (Kairali) and Malayala Manorama in the Kerala market.

Vismayas Max creates animated book trailer

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Team Vismayas is on a high. They have forayed into untrodden tracks by creating an animated book trailer for British author and screenplay writer Joanne Reay, which caught much attention at the just-concluded London Book Fair.

‘Lo’Life’, the supernatural trilogy from Joanne Reay, is one of the most anticipated series which is to hit book stores this year. Vismayas Max Animation, actor Mohanlal’s own studio in the city, has created the trailer for its first part - ‘Romeo Spikes’, which would be out from the stable of Beautiful Books this October.

The trailer has been named ‘Lola’, based on one of the main characters in the novel. Joanne had walked into the office of Vismayas one day and after going through the various animation works done by Team Vismayas handed them the task of creating a book trailer.

"We were given just four days to do a rough trailer. The trend of book trailers is yet to catch up in India. So, we worked on the storyboard and the characters day and night and created ‘Lola’. Joanne had asked us to perform magic and we did just that," says Vinod Malachira, who is the Project Coordinator, Vismayas.

The story revolves around human beings who have been forced to dwell in a middle space between heaven and hell. They are targeted by Tormentas, who are sent from the Lo’Worlds, who are meant to guide them to their deaths. The trailer has been created with apt music and narration, done by European composer Nicky Matthew and Hollywood actress Brodie Fitzpatrick respectively.

The creative direction of the trailer has been done by Vismayas Creative Head K D Shybu. The storyboard has been worked upon by Deepak S Raj. Vismayas comic book specialist Kalesh Karunakar has lent wings to the characters, while Bipin Krishna and Shibith Kotoor have given the background and colour schemes. The composing has been done by Praveen M S And Jibin Surendran.

On seeing the trailer getting rave reviews at the London Book Fair, Joanne has now extended another offer, which has taken Team Vismayas to cloud nine. Talks are on between Joanne and Vismayas to do Joanne’s next Hollywood project, ‘Shivering Kings’. Team Vismayas, if the talks take off, might do the pre-production works of the film.

Joanne Reay has to her credit various films which she scripted, including ‘Against All Odds’, ‘The Murder Rooms’ and ‘Bring Me the Head of Mavis Davis’.

Vikram's Vijay directed Deiva Thirumagal is on a promotion spree, across two states of Andhra and Kerala.

First the team was in Hyderabad for the Telugu audio launch of the film titled Nanna. The film has soothing music by GV Prakash.
