Errr, this is a Trivandrum forum. I think you'd best move the discussion to KC or some other thread. The discussion here is about retaining a train originating in Trivandrum by adopting a new route. If the route through Kerala is too congested to accommodate it, then the train can be run via TN. After all, isn't it the INDIAN railways?

By your logic, every train that originates in stations other than TVC should be extended to TVC so that ALL Keralites can benefit. Is that fine?

Ok for adopting new routes but should not with somebody else accounts

off course , always welcome. The train running in KL can benefit for all Keratitis not for south, central & north or Malabar etc etc..

Linu,
You are most welcome to stay and contribute your views in this thread/topic.

My first choice is to have a weekly TVC-KTYM-SBC-MYS train. That means the stop at SBC is for 5 or 10 mins only. We will have to accept a suitable time as per SWR convenience but we also get a connection till Mysore.

Second choice is via NJT (Town) not NCJ (Jn) with at least three stops before NJT to cater to the traffic between KCVL/TVC and NJT. But this route is going to be difficult with Single line, etc.

Continuation of Bangalore-Nagercoil weekly express sought

The Kanyakumari District Railway Users’ Association has urged the Union Minister for Railway to ensure the continuation of Bangalore-Nagercoil weekly express (16537/38).

In a memorandum to Union Minister for Railways, Mallikarjun Kharge, secretary of the association, P. Edward Jeni has said that people in the district were disappointed to hear that the existing weekly service from Nagercoil to Bangalore 16537/16538 via Hosur, Salem, Erode and Madurai may be discontinued. Thousands of people from the southern district were travelling to Bangalore for employment, business and as tourists. A sizeable number of IT professionals working in Bangalore also visit places like Kanyakumari, Madurai and Kovalam during weekends.

If this weekly train was extended to Kochuveli (Thiruvanathapuram) and operated on Fridays from Bangalore city instead of Thursdays without change in the return journey through Nagercoil on Saturdays it would be a great boon to tourists and also people living in Kalkulam and Vilavancode taluks of Tamil Nadu and Neyyatinkara taluk of Kerala.

“In the history of Indian Railways, rarely has been a train service discontinued. Invariably, the services are extended to cover a larger area. The concerned Zonal Railways should consider retaining this weekly train with extension to Kochuveli”, said Mr. Jeni

He further thanked the introduction of a daily direct train between Nagercoil and Bangalore via Namakkal and Madurai in the 2013-14 Budget.

This genuine need of the people was being realised after a 15-year long wait and therefore it is hoped that the Southern Railway and South Western Railway start this service in right earnest, he added.

For the current TVC-SBC weekly that is planned for cancellation, an alternative would be to try to run it in the new timing proposed for 6315/16 when it was originally made daily- Ex TVC 20:00 hrs - SBC arrival 12:00 departure 14:30 arr TVC 06:00.

The other part of this is that on Thursdays from Bangalore there are already 4 trains to Trivandrum - the A/C exp, the GR, 6315 and Island.

The Trivandrum Division has the biggest inventory of coaches in SR, something to be expected considering the sheer number of trains originating/terminating in Trivandrum, Kanyakumari, Alleppey and Ernakulam. Yet, the Division is yet to be blessed with a large scale coach and locomotive maintenance facility. Of the stations in the Division, Trivandrum's two stations account for the largest number of trains, yet the coach depot has been pending for decades now.

Wonder what it will take for GoK to acquire the necessary land at Nemom and split the cost of the facility with IR in the larger interest of the traveling public in the State?

True, it is a concern why Nemom terminal announced in rail budget have not taken off since past many years, especially when senior cabinet ministers represent our state in Delhi. Obviously there seem lack of political will with present GoK failing to push this much needed nemom terminal project.

I remember talking to one senior rail official some years back when he said they were planning for an electric locoshed near Tvm but later it came up at another location due to GoK callousness. GoK failed to influence rail ministry on getting due share for Tvm & has inflicted casualty to future growth.

There is limitation in expecting MEMU to handle peak time traffic to & from Tvm city as they share the same rail line with long distance services. It is high time our MP and GoK ask for the long demanded and pending suburban train services in Tvm. Recently suburban services are sanctioned for Bangalore city.

First phase can be between Varkala and Neyattinkara, later can be extended both sides.:)
