There's a caveat for the large increase though (clicking on the station on the map brings this up):

"Main portion of increase due to improved demand estimation in Centro area."

I love the new KIngs Cross. Wouldn't say it was confusing, but I love that most people don't realise you can go over the bridge from where the restaurants are and get an escalator down to the platforms, thus beating most other people onto the train!

The pub is also brilliant, it's massive and a great range of beers

Agree with the layout however the station is rather dated.

Look at some of the big cities in Europe Munich, Milan ect and IMO they all have the simple layout which works very well.

IE large concourse area running parallel to platform areas. This allows the station to control the flow of passengers in and around the platform area by only displaying platform information 15-20 minutes before departure. Tend to have seen this a lot more within Leeds train station with most of the East Coast services.

Most big stations in Europe seem to have a big main underpass going beneath all the platforms and tracks and connecting them, as opposed to bridges etc. Probably practical, though I have to say I very much dislike stations such as Brussels Midi.

An update regarding the new southern entrance. The secretary of state is still waiting to make a decision following the public inquiry in to the Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO). The public inquiry ended on 6th December 2012. A decision is expected in July 13. Only if the secretary of state gives a yes will construction go ahead and start at the end of 2013.

The TWAO was submitted in May 12, the level of bureaucracy is shocking! The entrance has planning permission, the government has approved funding. We then have to submit the TWAO, then await a public inquiry, then await the ministers decision. All this for a relatively minor change to the station!

Yep,those are the ones. Some hoarding up on Aire Street, and the floors are being gutted at the back via an external lift thingemy jig.
IF,thats IF it is for an extension for the Queens then they will need to get the sewer sorted under it.
When the Aire floods something happens and the whole building smells terrible, actually there is an overbearing smell all the time, but heavy rain makes it worse.

It's been turned into offices, there was an article about it a while back.
