At least. But instead of this "applicator" guy that can't draw a normal circle, they could've given a good chance to an artist!

This is Dubai Marina Torch Tower close to Sofooh Road last night around 2 am, and 2 photos this morning. South side looks fine while the north corner is burnt from 50th to 70th floor. The Tram is suspended and that road is blocked this morning because it runs right adjacent to Torch Tower , there were lots of falling debris last night.

Kind of like the JLT Tamweel Tower case.

Amazingly, thank God, no one was hurt

When massive towers like these catch fire and everybody gets out safely something must have been done right.

That said I'm concerned with the fact that when fire erupts somewhere in these supposedly new modern skyscrapers, nothing seems to be possible to stop it until it stops on its own by divine intervention. This is scary.

JLT from Emirates Hills' Golf Course (obviously before today's dreary dusty sandy weather )

Let's not call the work of fire fighters a "divine intervention".

Or the fact that skyscrapers are designed to burn out these fires as quickly as possible with minimum structural damage.

I certainly didn't mean to belittle the heroic efforts of these brave firefighters who deserve all the credit in the world. I'm just saying after reviewing the major high rise fires around the world in the last 40 years (China, New York, Russia, etc.) that the current technologies are unable to swiftly put out these fires in the floors where they start. Once they take off, it's very difficult to contain them.

I dream about firefighting small remotely controlled drones that can quickly rise to the floor or balcony on fire and put it out by throwing powder or any other effective substance. In this case every tower would have a couple of these drones. Perhaps wishful thinking, but drones are here and being used now for many things.

Just found out Dubai is again ahead of our dreams:

I hope this would work and gets implemented quickly.

Not sure how these drones would perform in the high winds we witnessed these last few days.

And how would you do that? DNA tracking on cigarette butts? Ratting out your neighbors?

Having cigarette detectors at the entrance of your flat?

Drink driving/ driving like a douche/use of mobile while driving/satellite dish on balconies etc

all are heavily fined/frowned upon/illegal etc but still some will always do it.

I'm all about this but I see no good coming into more rules/more bans/more fines. Its a question of education and common sense which sadly is in short distribution.
