Ouch... harrowing to see how beautiful Åbo used to be, once Sweden's second biggest city. The great fire did its job. C.L. Engel raped the cathedral and furthermore eager developers and reformistic city planners took care of the rest.

Great findings nonetheless.

Yes, the cathedral looked so much better before. Engel really did his best to ruin it.

Only the old railway station isn't exactly on the site of the present one, but rather it'd be in the middle of Kaivokatu street:

The Grand building on Bulevardi was such a loss. It was damaged during the war and later demolished.

Also, it's a shame we don't have many of those old lampposts left. They were really attractive.

I agree, a true loss. Could easily be perhaps the finest old building in today's Helsinki.
