It's on the square of grass where the old library used to be, but right up against the car park, so it's not that visible from Mere Green Road. The new proper Boots unit is going on main part of the old library site.

Yep It's there. I saw it, I was just expecting it to be facing the road.

Looking forward to this finally getting underway, although I must admit that I'll miss the mock Tudor frontage, shame that this couldn't have been incorporated into the development in some way.

Is there a complete list of retailers who are confirmed?

I maybe wrong but I think it`s only M+S and Boots for definite.

Yes, it will be good to see a start made. It will raise people`s spirits.

And let`s hope for a start at Brassington Avenue too. Can`t understand the delay there. Not happy about it at all.

I think a high end green grocery chain is also mooted.

I assumed that this was M&S food.

Signs up saying the car park (ex Kwik Save, Somerfield) will be closing on Monday 22nd June. So I assume demolition is imminent.

On another Sutton note, the Morrisons Local on Birmingham Road has been closed a while now, anybody noticed all the lights are on and full of stock still.
Also I hear the Waitrose in Sutton is due to close soon.

It`s going to be a bugger to park without that car park. It`s the only one that`s free for a long period. That said, it`s good news because it`s looked awful round there for years.

I heard the Waitrose was closing a few weeks ago. Obviously, trade not good enough in Sutton. The Poundland and Aldi don`t have that problem though.

Waitrose is just in the wrong location. People have been converted to Aldi and it nicely anchors the end of The Parade.

It`s hard for me to comment because I don`t shop at either but I see where you`re coming from.

Sainsburys for me, all the way.

On another note, I`m glad to see more restaurants opening up along the Birmingham Road.

For so long, Sutton has not had much of an evening offer and that seems to be changing for the better.

A few more clubs and bars along the other end of the Parade would be nice too.

Yes it appears only pre-let to M&S and Boots, here is the plan, Unit 11 is going to be boots.

Something that just occured while looking at this plan, there is not much room for boots and a carpark, does this plan include demolition of Carlton House and shops all the way up to Sainsburys Car Park.

The project involves the complete remodelling of an affluent local centre north of central Birmingham. The scheme comprises a 55 bed hotel and 60,000 sq.ft. of retail, including a new food store, non-food retail, bars, restaurants and car parking
Wonder if the hotel is still on the cards? Can't seee it on the plan, unless 2nd floor....

Your mention of a hotel is the first I`ve heard of it. They`d be better with another hotel in Sutton.

And nope, no demolition of any of Carlton house or the units within it. To be honest, I`m pleased. There`s plenty of existing car parking for Sainsburys and then in front of the Mare Pool too. Most the spaces are empty for a large part of the day anyway.

Might make people use the buses more!!

RalphGuy, beg to differ about the parking issue. throughout the week the majority of parking spaces in front of the Mere Pool, the Library and Sainsbury's whenever I have been are taken. The parking spaces occupying the site of Mulberry Walk are totally taken EVERY weekday 9 till 5.
Glad Mulberry Walk is going ahead, hope it turns out better than the visuals, hope we get an hotel too, but parking will be a big problem..

There's been similar rumours about the Waitrose in Hall Green, in the months before and after the Aldi opened up just down the Stratford Road. I feel like they're still doing good trade though, and a close by Aldi/Lidl can potentially build a symbiotic relationship with the 'posh' food shops.

I don't think Waitress was big enough to attract people with cars who would otherwise go to Mere Green. Lots of things weren't stocked. Add in the higher prices charged (everything was a few pence more than Mere Green) and passing trade couldn't sustain it.
