Less-talk about but is another state-of-the-art infrastructure ongoing in Kuala Lumpur:
Pantai 2 STP Green Transformation Project Replacing KL's Largest Sewage Treatment Facility with Above Ground Urban Park and Moving the Facility into Underground Official website: http://www.pantai2stp.com.my Reported by Patchay Urban Research | January 22, 2013 The previous Sewage Treatment Facilities (STP) for Pantai was completed in 1958 using a system designed to serve an ultimate of 527,000 PE. The first phase of the Pantai STP, completed in 1958, was designed to treat an average dry weather flow of 23,653 m3/day and covering 17 ha of the total 35 ha site. The Pantai STP was expanded in 1984 when a 72,730 m3/day Aerated Lagoon (AL) was constructed. Aerial View in August 2011 ![]() The existing Pantai CSTP consists of large Aerated lagoons and recently constructed mechanize plant (which are separated by the NPE) has a total capacity for 877,000 PE, whereas the Pantai CSTP is presently serving a connected PE of 1.18 million. Thus, the Pantai CSTP is highly overloaded and has to be upgraded immediately. The new STP (Pantai 2 STP) is to be constructed at an ultimate capacity of 1.423 million PE. How it will look like in 2014? ![]() ![]() ![]() It is proposed that the large aerated lagoons to be upgraded to a mechanized Pantai 2 STP to alleviate the current situation. The new centralized waste water treatment facility will generate standard A effluent in accordance with the Environmental Quality (Sewage) Regulation 2009. The site in June 2012 ![]() A compact treatment facility using Advanced A2O process together with sludge treatment and dewatering facilities will be constructed. This is to replace the existing aerated lagoons, which will incorporate anaerobic digestion with solid dewatering. A 1.423 million PE sludge management facility will be constructed to treat and manage the waste biological sludge, with the provision of bio gas power generation facility. The site in October 2012 ![]() The Pantai 2 STP will be developed as an underground facility with ground/area above the STP developed as a leisure park with sports, recreational, administration building and community facilities for the local residents. The site in December 2012

Having world-class projects put country on the map and open up economy
By EILEEN NG Tuesday March 19, 2013 http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp...167&sec=nation PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s world-class infrastructure has not only put the country on the map, but it has also led to increased job creation, investment and domestic spending. During the tenure of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the country built some of the world’s finest highways and ports as well as the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and the Sepang F1 circuit. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s infrastructure projects include the covered pedestrian walkways in the Klang Valley and the proposed high-speed rail project between Singapore and Kuala Lum-pur. Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said having world-class infrastructure had opened up the nation’s economy. In citing the KLCC – Pavilion elevated pedestrian walkway as an example, Dr Ng said seven million people had used it within the first three months since it was opened by Najib early last year. A total of 31.9 million people had used the stretch in 2012. “The walkway offers greater accessibility, comfort and security for shoppers. “It is very clear that our infrastructures have opened up the tourism industry,” she added. Similar walkways will be built including the NKRA for Urban Public Transport proposing four skywalks and covered walkways in Kuala Lumpur, with construction expected to start this year. They are Pudu Sentral Walkway (from Plaza Rakyat to Pasar Seni LRT stations), Bandaraya Walkway (linking Bandaraya LRT station to Sultan Ismail Skywalk), Wangsa Walk (connecting Wangsa Walk mall and Sri Rampai LRT station) and Wangsa Maju Walkway (from TAR college to Jusco Wangsa Maju with connection to Wangsa Maju LRT station). Meanwhile, the high-speed rail link will reduce travel between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore to a 90-minute journey and would comprise two services – express and transit. The express service will connect Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, while the transit service will stop at smaller towns in Johor, Malacca and Negri Sembilan. Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said the high-speed rail link would have a direct and indirect economic impact. “Stations along the alignment will also have the opportunity to leverage on the improved connectivity offered by the high-speed service to attract not only investors and businessmen, but also visitors and tourists,” he said. SPAD chief executive officer Mohd Nur Kamal Mohd Nur concurred, saying that besides fares, there would also be non-fare derived revenue such as property development in and around stations, integrated station complexes as well as retail spaces.
