Seri Anggerik PPR residents disturbed by nearby construction

Posted on August 15, 2013 - Property News.

Too close for comfort: The new development is next to the Seri Anggerik government housing scheme (right). Residents say construction work from the project site has been noisy and dusty.

RESIDENTS of Seri Anggerik People’s Housing Project (PPR) are feeling distressed due to the construction work taking place at the former Alamanda College site, comprising two 24-storey service apartments, at the 4th mile of Jalan Kelang Lama.

The goverment housing project comprising four blocks is located right next to the new development and the 5,000 residents are facing inconveniences as well as noise and dust pollution.

“Our biggest problem is the noise,’’ said the residents association chairman Mohd Nor Abu.

“It is very noisy and at times, the banging gets so loud that our building reverberates,’’ he said, adding that a kindergarten was located closest to the construction site and the works were disrupting lessons.

“Due to the dust, we have to keep our windows closed at all times and we feel stifled,’’ said Siti Mariam, a long-time resident at the flats.

“Also, now we have to dry our laundry along the corridors and cover them with plastic to keep the dust out,’’ she said.

The residents said several attempts to speak to the project manager had been unsuccessful.

When contacted, a spokesman from Bukit Kiara Properties, the project developer, said the construction work was carried out during permitted hours as stipulated by Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

I used to study there from Jul 2009 - May 2010. Back then it was known as UiTM Kolej Alamanda.

Here's a view from my hostel on the 15th floor.

You can see that Scott's Garden next door was still under construction at that time.
