Mohammad Farooq | June 15, 2015 | @Mohammad Farooq
http://www.techjuice.pk/lahore-trans...a-application/

Transportation applications can be time savers for people commuting on a daily basis. Lahore transportation company (LTC) launched a smartphone application named “Bus Da Pata” which is expected to debut publicly on the 16th of June 2015. It will be offering the following services:

Next bus arrival time
Route information
Fare information
Trip planner
Live bus locator

A wave of applications has been launched in the past few years ranging from smartphone apps to book taxis to real time data available for public transportation. These initiatives will be largely beneficial to the public, ease their woes while traveling via a public transport. Bus Da Pata app will aid the commuters in planning their journey, save immense time and improve efficiency.

Travly another application for helping commuters with public transport was launched last year in May. It helps locate the nearest bus stops from your current location and tells you which buses to board from point A to point B. As of last year, Travly had integrated 36 cities into their application.

The application is available on the Google Play store but while testing it on a Xperia Z1, ‘Your device isn’t compatible with this version message’ got displayed.

Guided tours on open deck buses
Like elsewhere in the developed world’s tourism attracting cities like London, Paris, Dubai and Bangkok our city too will now have open double deck buses for tourists for sight seeing.

The first two of these buses under the ‘Sightseeing Lahore’ project of Tourism Development Corporation Punjab arrived in city on Friday. The buses have been parked at VPL MotorsWarehouse at 18 km Multan Road. Three more buses are expected in the month.

A spokesman of TDCP told The Nation that the inauguration of service would take place by the end of this month. “Lahore is a beautiful city and has many places for sight seeing. We have a number of heritage sites. We expect tourists from across the province. The two Volvo buses have cost a sum of $376,000. The start of this service will definitely set the wheels of local tourism in motion.

“TDCP will facilitate the tourists in every way. Public announcement system has been installed in the buses. Tourists will be informed of the important places on the route. The people who will run the service have been hired and their uniforms too are ready. The same kind of service would be provided that is being provided to tourists in international cities like London, Dubai and Bangkok.

“The terminal from where the buses will start is ready for operation. It has been made near Punjab Stadium. The route of the buses has not been finalized yet while the travel fare has also not been fixed yet. Since it is project to promote tourism the travel fare would not be high,” he explained.

Sources in TDCP told the scribe that the department has decided on two routes. “Since the terminal is near Gulberg area one proposed route is that the bus will move from the Punjab Stadium terminal to Main Boulevard, Canal Road, Mall Road, Lahore Museum and then to Minar-e-Pakistan and Lahore Fort.

“TDCP has also requested that the buses may also be allowed to ply on the Metro Bus route that would add a different flavour of Lahore to people from other cities and towns,” sources said.

The city of Lahore will be the first to have such tourism service in the country.

This time, Institute for Transportation and Development Policy has scored the BRT systems in Pakistan as well. The Islamabad Metrobus system scored as Bronze (64 points) and the Lahore Metrobus system scored as a Basic BRT system (52 points).

Of the systems scored, 15 are classified as gold, 28 as silver, 41 as bronze, and 6 as “basic” BRT, indicating a minimum of BRT features, but not quite qualifying as best practice. Eight did not qualify as BRT.

The scores are posted online here:

Public transport: 200 new bus stop shelters to be built

Quote:
LAHORE: The government will build over 200 new bus stop shelters on all major roads in the city. These bus stops will be built under the Khoobsurat Lahore Framework.

Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sumbal chaired a meeting on Wednesday to finalise the design of the new bus stands. During the meeting, bus stop designs were approved for Jail Road, Ferozpur Road, Canal Road, Gulberg’s Main Boulevard, Punjab University, MM Alam Road, Guru Mangat Road, Mehmood Kasuri Road, Ghari Shahu and Shadbagh. Sumbal said the Lahore Transport Company (LTC) would identify locations of new bus stop shelters according to its requirements. “The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), the LTC and shelter designers will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) over the project,” he said.

The meeting was attended by PHA Director General Mian Shakeel Ahmad, LTC CEO Khawaja Haider Latif, the Lahore Biennale Foundation chairperson, shelter designers and other senior officials. Talking to The Express Tribune, Latif said the city now had 144 bus stops shelters. “The LTC is reconstructing bus stop shelters at The Mall and other main roads. The new bus stop shelters will be run on build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis,” he said. Ahmad said the project would be financed through leasing space on the bus stops for advertisement.
