Yep. The talk we had spurred me to find documents of the link.

Meanwhile, I will continue taking the bus to Paya Lebar as I am simply too lazy to climb the overhead bridge and walk another distance haha.

Some news regarding the cabling works for Circle Line.

Change in Circle Line services on Sunday for cable works
By Melissa Chong | Posted: 14 March 2013 1902 hrs

SINGAPORE : SMRT has said it plans to replace about 120 kilometres of power cables on the Circle Line.

These new cables can withstand exposure to water, hence preventing power outages - something which had led to train disruptions in the past.

The replacement works have been going on since mid-January this year.

SMRT is targeting to complete the cable replacement works by year-end.

To hasten the process, there will be a change in normal train services on the Circle Line between 5.30am and 10am this Sunday.

For commuters affected by the temporary change, there will be a shuttle train service between Mountbatten and Paya Lebar from 5.30am to 10am on Sunday.

I have to wonder...what about those on the NSL and EWL? Are the cables vulnerable to water damage?

I would think that they're well insulated, since on average, it rains every day in some part of Singapore.

Even if they are, it has been 2 decades since they were used. I am sure there will be a need to change them in the near future.

News on the cable replacement that happened today.

SMRT replaces power cables along Circle Line
By Dylan Loh | Posted: 17 March 2013 1255 hrs

SINGAPORE: There were some inconveniences for commuters on Sunday as train operator SMRT replaced power cables along part of the Circle Line rail network.

The work affected three stops on the line, stretching from Paya Lebar to Mountbatten stations, from 5.30am to 10am.

Signs were put up to tell commuters that journey duration may be longer by 10 to 12 minutes.

Replacement of the cables aims to reduce chances of power outages that stopped train services previously.

Part of a tunnel was closed for works, and SMRT ran shuttle train services to help affected commuters.

The shuttle train plied back and forth through the affected stations to ferry commuters.

Commuters whom Channel NewsAsia spoke with experienced delays in their journeys, but did not encounter major inconveniences.

SMRT expects to complete cable replacement works on all Circle Line stations by December 2013.

Software error caused train delay at Circle Line: SMRT
By S Ramesh | Posted: 29 March 2013 1718 hrs

SINGAPORE: The Circle Line's automatic train timetable scheduling system experienced a software error on Thursday, March 28 at about 8.10pm said SMRT.

Responding to queries from Channel NewsAsia after it had received several hotline calls about the incident, SMRT's vice president of corporate marketing & communications, Ms Kalai Natarajan, said the servers had to be restarted to ensure that all trains were running in accordance to their schedules.

In the meantime, some trains had to be manually driven to be positioned at the correct station platforms while others had to be driven at a slower speed or temporarily held at some stations.

The servers were restored at about 8.30pm and all trains on the Circle Line returned to their regular schedule about 20 minutes later.

Passengers on board affected trains were informed of longer travelling time via announcements.

SMRT stressed that at no point was passenger safety compromised.

SMRT said the incident caused an average of additional 20 minutes travelling time along both bounds of the Circle Line between 8.10pm and 8.50pm on Thursday.

are the press and everyone else becoming more active in posting small delays like this one up, or are mini (and major) delays becoming more prevalent?

For me, it is more of the former than the latter. Everyone is very jumpy about delays since the big one in 2011.

nah it's definitely SMRT's PR team. They have to send out every query because eyes are on their work ethics and how much they actually care about its consumers (when they don't lah)

Minor delay, minor problem. I have no idea how SMRT's "automatic timetable scheduling system" works, but you would think such programs have a manual mode. But at least they were responsive to the problem and solved it.

I was wondering...is the CCL coded to be fussy? Trains seem to halt all the time for no obvious apparent reasons citing train faults.

From the lack of "train faults" on NEL, you can deduce their protocol is to ignore problems the train is transmitting for the sake of service efficiency. Maintenance is only done when it's back in the depot on normal schedules.

News from CNA.

Slight delays expected at selected CCL stations on two Sundays
POSTED: 02 May 2013 1:18 PM

Selected Circle Line stations will have some service changes on May 12 and May 19 to facilitate power cable change works. As a result, commuters may face travel delays of up to 10 minutes, says SMRT.

SINGAPORE: There will be some service changes to the Circle Line this month to facilitate power cable change works.

As a result, commuters may face travel delays of up to 10 minutes, says SMRT.

On Sunday, May 12, Marymount and Caldecott stations will operate with a single platform from 6am to 10 am, says an SMRT statement.

Trains going in either direction will stop at the same platform, as the other side will be closed.

There will be similar arrangements at Botanic Gardens and Farrer Road stations from 6am to 10am on Sunday, May 19.

SMRT says signs will be put up at affected stations to inform passengers of the new arrangements. Announcements will also be made and staff deployed on the ground.

The cable replacement programme started this year.

It is aimed at minimising potential power outage to boost the reliability of the train system.

Works at all 30 stations are expected to be completed by the end of this year.
