Bath, NY

Bath is a village in the Southern Tier region of New York. The village is the seat of Steuben County, and has a population of around 5,500.

Bath was founded in 1793 and named after the Countess of Bath, the lady of Sir William Pulteney. Pulteney and Charles Williamson laid out the village along the Cohocton River near Keuka Lake with the prospect that the Cohocton River, Chemung River, and Susquehanna River could be used to ship goods down to the cities on the Chesapeake Bay. Wide avenues were surveyed to allow for growth of the future boomtown. Bath was named the seat of newly-formed Steuben County in 1796. However, the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825 focused trade to cities on the canal, usch as Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse.

Owego has a really pretty riverfront with those buildings that are built right on the riverbank.
