I noticed that as well and if you look at the upstairs windows they are spaced further apart to their neighbours. Also I think on closer inspection the roofs are set higher up. If you see a closer picture of the Quay Street set the roofs appear to rest just above the line of the upstairs windows. I'm wondering how the established planting will be done such as the tree on the street corner?

The back of the Webster's house has changed massively, plus it has gained a floor over the entrance door
(Webster house for reference)

Another new picture has come out, they've made quite a bit of progress with the Victoria Street set now

The corner shop also gains a extra upstairs window.

Is this site just for Coronation Street, or will it be used for other programmes ?

The building looks too big to house only the Corrie interior sets.

They will probably build temporary sets there too if say they needed a different room for a week, e.g. a court case storyline.

That's usually handled by a location shoot. There is minimal space for temporary sets.

Indeed. Everything from Quay St not directly Corrie related is now on the Salford side of the ship canal.

Just where might they have got that idea from?

I think you have the cart before the horse sir - the second Coronation Street railway arch has been around a long long time - here's the Mark 1 arch
http://binged.it/14kciYx

When the street was open to the public as part of the Granada Studios Tour the arch was not there (at least on the first of the two visits I made in the 90's) there was simply a low wall and you could see the back end of the Granada Building on Quay Street but I guess it prevented them filming any outside shots looking in that direction

How recent is the Bing "Bird's Eye" imagery? I ask because if you look at the Corrie set, there's a hearse and a limo there. Also, look at the giant picture of a "Northern" street just behind the archway next to the Rovers. Very ingenious!

This whole site looks bloody horrible. Hope ITV or Peel or Trafford MBC, or whoever(!) are going to landscape around the edges of the site.
