We piss it up against walls. If HH Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum etc decides he wants a metro or a new airport, he builds it. He doesn't need a new KPMG written glossy for 15 transport ministers in series, each one lasting as long as the latest corruption scandal or change of government.

And he doesn't need to pay off the local organised labour interests, organised crime, business ticket-clippers and rent seekers, NIMBYs and the list goes on.

Poverty has very little to do with it, and if you provide jobs you eliminate poverty, which is why I am so surprised the local political class is so against job creation. Of course, hard to clip those tickets.

By the time construction actually begins on this new airport, should there be a brand new thread on Badgerys Creek Airport, given that debate -for the most part- is pretty much settled on the final location of Sydney's second airport? We can let this particular thread soldier on until then, as it has for the past eight years.

Not to mention the hundreds, if not thousands, of workers who die(like flies) in the UAE construction industry.....

Oh FFS. I was almost going to agree with your previous observation until I read this latest bulls#it.

They also stone rape victims and gays in that part of the world and jail people for showing too much flesh at the beach.

I think the tens of thousands of imported African and Asian workers living in slums encircling Dubai scraping a living as virtual slaves would disagree with you about the poverty.

Oh and didn't his fiefdom need to be bailed out recently by the sheikh to the north?

You are truly an idiot.

Labor Mayor Stephen Bali *believes planes taking off almost 20km away will be too noisy over his council area and has also called for a curfew on night flying.

His proposals have been condemned by Western Sydney leaders and prompted them to call for the state and federal governments to step up planning restrictions to protect the airport site and flight path.

Lol!
The mayor of Blacktown is absurd because 20 storey towers will do little anyways to change flightpaths etc.
That thinking is consistent with some of the cronies at CASA.

I thought I had you on the ban list so I was surprised I could even see this. Anyway that will be fixed.

Not sure why you think I would care that you were 'nearly' going to agree with what I said. You must think I crave your approval you fwit.

You're right as usual no show. I mean everything else is just white noise, isn't it? When you can have the world's tallest buildings in one the world's most stable regions like the Middle East (cough), built literally and figuratively on sand, everything else just pales into insignificance.

There is just so much endemic corruption at all levels of Australian society. I mean it's a wonder that so many people like you (or your parents) wanted to emigrate here, when they could live in one of those bastions of transparent incorruptible government like Russia, China or even the UAE.

If only we had a bicameral federal government, that has operated under the same system since 1901, making it one of the world's oldest. With a house of review called the Senate, a similar set-up in most of the states (whose parliaments are even older than the federal one), free elections with the secret ballot (invented here), a pioneer of universal suffrage (Sth Australia being the first jurisdiction anywhere to give women the vote), a robust constitution, independent judiciaries at federal and state level, separation of church and state, etc.

Imagine a country like that. It's called Australia.

You criticise Australian bureaucracy for inefficiency and then use the UAE as an example of efficiency? Dubai is many things, efficient isn't one of them. Just ask someone who has lived there what their postal address was..

Actually poverty has everything to do with it, Dubai is able to construct the infrastructure it has at cheaper rates and faster time frames because they import hundreds of thousand foreign workers who work for minimum wage and little regard for OHS.

You're wasting your time presenting facts with that one I'm afraid. His entire ethos is around reducing Australian wages and standard of living to Asian and African standards and all will be well.. It's quite a bizarre fantasy.

You certainly seem to crave approval generally. You'd probably have some credibility if you acknowledged others when they call you out on your completely false assertions. I mean seriously, to suggest Dubai is efficient and that poverty and cheap labor aren't a factor - WTF. Laughable. Hope you put me on your ban list soon!
