Question

Does the plaza that surrounds the Equitable Building and the Tribune Tower have a name?

pioneer plaza.

apparently, the plaza sits on the site of the cabin of john baptiste du sable, the first settler of chicago, hence the name.

Thanks sharptent. Two more questions, I was looking at my Chicago From The Air found these:

What is the name of this statue, and where is it located? Whenever I'm in Chicago, I can never seem to find it:

and what's this building that is circled?

Sorry for the bad quality, I snapped these fairly quickly in poor settings.

Oh, and sharptent, I hope you're enjoying today's banner as much as I am!

Nap,

The first pic is of the Madison Plaza Bldg (aka "200 West Madison"). located on the NW corner of Madison and Wells. The pic is taken from the Washington/Wells "L" station. I think the sculpture is actually no longer there. Funny, I walk by the building on my way to and from work each day, and I never pay much attention to the plaza. I do know that the Hyatt Corporation was headquarted here until their move to the new building at the Hyatt Center on Wacker and Monroe. The Harrington School of Design recently moved to the building from their former home in the Fine Arts Bldg.

As for the second pic, I believe is the Sheraton Hotel on the north side of the river.

I am not sure, it may still be there, I just can't remember it. (Kinda sad actually, I like the piece.)

Yeah, it's still there. The building is going to be constructing a wintergarden that encloses the plaza and extends out to the street line. The plans I saw show the sculpture in the same place.

I was wrong, it isn't the Sheraton Hotel, it is an apartment building called "The Chicagoan" (real original name, huh?) at 750 N Rush St. They have 640 sq. ft. studios starting at $1150 a month, one bedrooms from $1295. And they still don't have their own in-unit washer and dryer (Something I would expect from an older building.) They have a website here.

The sculpture is Dawn Shadows by Louise Nevelson (1983; it is still on site.
