I've been visiting this forum regularly for a couple of years but never actually participated. I haven't seen any threads on this, so i thought i'd create one. Has anyone got any picture of the site? Thanks
In what's a good piece of news showing that the construction of tall buildings is finally starting to pick up again, work is now underway on the 82-metre tall Alberta House project and its adjacent blocks in the London borough of Tower Hamlets. Developed by the Swan Housing Association, who are clearly not wracked by the funding problems of some of their rivals, the scheme stands to the immediate west of Ballymore's New Providence Wharf and Ontario Tower only a short walk from the Blackwall DLR station. Originally proposed in 2007, the scheme has been designed by BLDA with the tower and two neighbouring blocks containing a mixture of social and private housing that totals 133 apartments ranging from 1 bedroom apartments to family friendly 5 bedroom maisonettes, something that is in really short supply in London. The development has been extensively greened by the architects during the design stage and includes a number of features such as a biomass boiler, the latest in insulation to avoid heat-loss, and a green roof that's intended partly as an aerial nature reserve. As one would expect from an under construction development, the project now has a fancy marketing name that's a triumph of style over substance - Streamlight at Alberta. |
