Well, IMO I have to answer Australia.

Yg gw liat klo negara2 ASEAN belum terlalu siginifikan bantuannya, cuma banyak ucapan turut berduka doank... Selebihnya? Kayaknya cuma sekedar kerja sama biasa, nothing special... Belum sampe kayak NATO atau EU yg keliatan kompak githu....

Philippine police on alert on eve of September 11 anniversary

Manila (ANTARA News) - Philippine police forces were placed on heightened alert Tuesday, the eve of the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States, a spokesman said.

All police units were told to initiate preventive measures against terrorist activities by local groups, Chief Superintendent Nicanor Bartolome told DPA.

"Based on historical data, some terrorist organizations have been known to launch activities to commemorate some dates and occasions that are significant to their organization," he said.

Police forces were ordered to "intensify intelligence operations to monitor and pre-empt movement of known threat groups and strengthen the defences of vital installations and soft targets," he said.

Bartolome said police units have also been placed on standby to respond to emergencies.

He noted the al-Qaeda terrorist network, which was behind the September 11 attacks, has links with Islamic militants in the Philippines.

Al-Qaeda is believed to be providing financial support to the local Muslim Abu Sayyaf rebel group and the regional Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist network, whose top militants are believed to be hiding in the southern Philippines. (*)

Australia Perkuat Kemampuan Angkatan Laut

Cambodian prime minister tells schools to allow Muslim headscarves

Phnom Penh (ANTARA News) - Cambodian public and private schools have been advised by Prime Minister Hun Sen to allow Muslim students to wear headscarves if they so wish in an official decree published widely in national media Thursday.

"They can wear uniform according to school's internal regulation or their traditional Muslim clothes," the directive was quoted by DPA as saying.

Hun Sen's directive to allow Muslim students to wear the hijab, or headscarf, was in the national interest, it said.

Cambodia's Cham Muslim minority, which is estimated to number in the hundreds of thousands, is generally well integrated into the majority-Buddhist society and Cambodia has avoided religious tensions such as those in neighbouring Thailand's restive south.

However the failure of some schools to be flexible in their dress codes has reportedly led to some Muslims, especially females, dropping out of school rather than going against their beliefs.

The Cham, descendents of the once-mighty Champa kingdom which reached its peak in the 9th century, suffered systematic and terrible abuse at the hands of the 1975-79 Khmer Rouge regime, with an unknown number slaughtered for their beliefs.

But Hun Sen's ruling Cambodian People's Party, which has governed in one form or another since 1979, has gone to great lengths to grant the nation's Muslims equal rights and mainstream acceptance under a constitution which enshrines freedom of worship. (*)

Malaysia frees opposition lawmaker after criticism
The Associated Press , Kuala Lumpur | Fri, 09/19/2008 1:17 PM | World

A lawyer says police have released a Malaysian opposition lawmaker who was detained without trial for a week.

Lawyer Sankara Nair says Teresa Kok, a representative of the Democratic Action Party, telephoned him to say police released her Friday.

Kok was arrested Sept. 12 under the Internal Security Act, which provides for indefinite detention without trial, after she allegedly complained about the noise of morning prayers from a mosque. She has denied making such complaints.

Police arrested Kok and two journalists on the same day, but one of the journalists was later released. Malaysia's law minister resigned this week after protesting the arrests.

Detained Australians in Papua 'no threat': Indonesia

Five Australians held in Indonesia after illegally flying a light aircraft into the tightly controlled Papua province are no threat to the country, the defence minister said Thursday.

"Our finding from the event of the Australians who flew from Queensland to Papua is that they are not a threat or anything like that," Juwono Sudarsono told reporters after a meeting with his Australian counterpart Joel Fitzgibbon.

"It was only a number of people looking for an opportunity to open up tourism," he said.

The group was being held in an immigration detention facility in Merauke town in Papua after landing Friday in the province without papers, said Australian foreign ministry spokeswoman Jenny Dee.

"There isn't any evidence that they were up to what we would describe as any sort of activities that should be a threat to Indonesia," Fitzgibbon said.

"I understand that they were under the impression that they would be able to secure a visa on arrival ... (but) that doesn't change the fact that what they did showed very very poor judgement and the Australian government is very appreciative of the way the Indonesian government has handled the matter," he said.

Indonesia clamps tight restrictions on travel to Papua, where a small guerrilla force has been waging a low-level separatist insurgency since the 1960s. Journalists without special permits are barred from the region.

Police grilling of five Australians moved to Jakarta

Merauke, Papua, (ANTARA News) - Police grilling of five Australian nationals who had entered Merauke illegally, has been moved to the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta.

"The handing over of the five Australian nationals was conducted last Friday (Sept. 19)," Freddy Manus, the Merauke immigration head, said here on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Senior Commissioner Agus Riyanto, a spokesman of the Papua Police, said that his side had grilled the Australians, who landed in Merauke on September 12, 2008, from Horn Island off Cape York, which is an hour flight away, by a small V-68 plane.

They arrived in Papua without visa and their plane had no flight clearance nor security approval documents, he said.

The Australians were identified as William Henry Scott Bloxam, Vera Scott Bloxom,Hubert Hofer, Karen Burke, and Keit Rowald Mortimer.

Meanwhile, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) had admitted that five Australian citizens had been held in Merauke, Papua, for having entered Indonesian territory without proper travel documents.

The DFAT as quoted by the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) stated that the Australians had been arrested because they held no flight, security and immigration permits. They are now still under the supervision of the Indonesian authorities pending the issuance of the permits.

The Australian embassy in Jakarta has given consular assistance to the five. (*)

Malaysian PM under new pressure to quit by year-end

Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA News) - Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is under intense pressure to quit, after being confronted by rare criticism from within his cabinet, as well as an opposition bid to seize power.

Abdullah led the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition to its worst electoral showing in half a century in March, as voters punished him over broken promises for reform, as well as spiralling prices of food and fuel.

So far he has clung tenaciously to the job, and refused to negotiate with opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, who has announced he has enough support from defecting lawmakers to topple the government.

But last week Abdullah faced an unprecedented challenge from within his cabinet, as four ministers spoke out against him at a meeting of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) which leads the coalition.

According to The Star daily, they told Abdullah at a meeting of the party's supreme council that "the political situation was not improving and that he should consider an earlier exit".

UMNO information chief Muhammad Muhammad Taib confirmed the challenge took place and said Abdullah was saddened and visibly affected by it, but insisted he could ride out the crisis.

"The four of them spoke and said this to the prime minister... but it was not the majority speaking. There are more than 30 supreme council members and not all are in unison, asking the PM to resign," Muhammad told AFP.

"He listened. It was not the first time for him. He has his own intelligence report well prepared on what the feeling is at the grassroots level," he said.

Abdullah in July unveiled a plan to hand over to his deputy Najib Razak in mid-2010, but the strategy failed to quell calls for his ouster, and last week he indicated the timing was "flexible" and that he could depart earlier.

He handed over the important finance ministry post to Najib in a show of solidarity, but was hit with the challenge from his ministers just a day later.

An UMNO official from Abdullah's home state of Penang said the premier's position was now untenable and he would have to quit before the party holds leadership elections in December.

"Abdullah does not have any choice left. He has to go by year-end," the senior official told AFP on condition of anonymity. "Abdullah is now being viewed as a leader who has lost control of the party and government."

"He cannot make any drastic moves to reel in party leaders who have openly gone against him by questioning the power transition agreement," he said.

Najib is widely tipped to replace Abdullah, with his new deputy likely to be Trade Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who has been one of the premier's most outspoken critics. (*)

Australia`s Qantas says A380 arrival heralds new era

Sydney (ANTARA News) - Qantas landed its first A380 superjumbo here on Sunday, hopeful that its arrival will boost the Australian carrier, which has recently faced a series of mechanical problems including a mid-air blast.

The arrival of the first of the giant Airbus A380s, the world's largest passenger jet, in Australia comes as Qantas also battles rising fuel costs and global financial uncertainty.

"We are witnessing an exciting new era for Qantas but also for Australian aviation," executive general manager John Borghetti said after the plane landed at Sydney airport cheered by hundreds of Qantas staff and their families.

Borghetti said the A380s, which run on four Rolls-Royce engines and have a wingspan of about 80 metres (264 feet), were quieter and more fuel-efficient than other planes while the interiors would redefine the customer experience.

"It's so exciting. It gives the whole industry a boost, particularly so given the economic climate that we are in," Borghetti told AFP.

Borghetti said the arrival of the 350-million-dollar (290 million US) dollar A380 -- delivered to the airline in France on Friday -- would allow Qantas to keep its position at the forefront of world aviation.

Asked about the recent mechanical problems encountered by the airline, Borghetti said only: "Qantas' engineering excellence is legendary."

In July, Qantas faced a storm of negative publicity after an oxygen cylinder exploded on a flight from Hong Kong to Melbourne in July, forcing an emergency landing in Manila.

The incident was one of several that prompted the Australian aviation watchdog to urge Qantas earlier this month to improve maintenance.

Qantas was the first airline to order the A380s, committing to the double-decker craft in 2000, but delivery has been slowed by delays and budget
overruns in production in Toulouse, France.

The airline's first commercial A380 service will operate between Melbourne and Los Angeles on October 20. It hopes to have taken delivery of three of the aircraft by the end of the year.

Airbus has said the aeroplane can seat 853 passengers, all in economy class. Qantas has configured its A380 to seat 450 passengers in four classes. (*)

Thai govt, Malay Muslims committed to end conflicts
Abdul Khalik , The Jakarta Post , Jakarta | Sun, 09/21/2008 7:52 PM | World

Representatives of the Thai government and Muslim communities in the south of the country concluded Sunday a historic two-day talks hosted by the Indonesian government in Bogor, West Java, with a commitment to end the bloody conflicts in the area.

The two sides pledged to continue the talks at the same place in November to try to find ways to meet the Thai Muslims' demands for justice, economic development and the right to use the Malay language in their areas.

The Thai government sent to Indonesia a group of five negotiators headed by Gen. Khwanchart Klahan, supreme commander of the Southern Border Provinces Peace Building Command -- an official body overseeing Thailand's south.

The Thai Muslims were represented by leaders of the Pattani Malay Consultative Congress, an umbrella organization of southern Thailand's insurgent groups.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla acted as the mediator in the closed meeting with political experts Fachry Ali of the University of Indonesia and Anies Baswedan of the Paramadina University accompanying him during the negotiation.

Also attending the negotiation were the Vice President's political advisors Johermansyah Johan and Farid Hussein and Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand M. Hatta.

"We have made substantial progress during the negotiation, with both sides expressing commitment to end the conflicts," Fachry told The Jakarta Post after the talks, held at the Presidential Palace in Bogor, around 60 kilometers south of Jakarta.

Anies described the two-day talks as a solid basis for the next round of negotiation, with representatives from both sides willing to listen.

"This is the first encounter so they have to adjust, and become comfortable. Many of the lingering issues have been tabled," he said.

Data compiled by Prince of Songkhla University shows that from January 2004 to June 21, 2007, at least 2,303 people were killed and more than 6,000 injured in outbreaks of violence related to the insurgency in Thailand's southern regions.

The most affected areas are three Muslim-dominated Southern provinces -- Pattani, Narathiwat, and Yala.
