Hopefully I'm not jumping the gun but with staff at the Duncan Building receiving letters about imminent construction of the BioInnovation Centre, I thought it should have its own thread.
Planning permission has been granted by Liverpool City Council for the first stage of the huge BioCampus project, which is
ultimately expected to attract 5,000 science and technology jobs to Liverpool.
The BioInnovation Centre will be next to the planned new Royal Liverpool University Hospital and is the first step in the creation of
a BioCampus that could make Liverpool a leading international life sciences centre.
It is all part of the work to develop the pipeline for new drugs, medical devices and new treatments that will see Liverpool being
at the forefront of healthcare innovation. It is hard to overstate the importance of the scheme which will see Liverpool, already
strong in academic science and clinical science becoming a leading centre for life sciences across the board.
Looking very slick this development. Definitely an improvement on what is quite a run down part of town.
I know red brick gets a bit of a pasting on here but those yellow brick student blocks on the right are looking a bit tired and shabby already. What are they, about 15 years old? Hope the current crop of student builds don't look quite as shabby in 15-20 years time
it is beautiful, a pleasure to look at, enhances the streetscape and makes it feel cosmopolitan, modern and forward looking yet stylish...thumbs up to all involved
The Liverpool Life Sciences Accelerator (formerly the Liverpool Bio Innovation Centre) is phase one of a vibrant international life science campus in the heart of the Liverpool Knowledge Quarter. Based on the Royal Liverpool University Hospital Bio Campus site, the new facility will connect academics, industry, investors, NHS clinicians and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.
The upper two floors of the building will provide specialist research and administration accommodation for the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine comprising CL2 and CL3 research laboratories, specialist support facilities, Insectaries, Write Up spaces and Administration accommodation.
Two lower floors of the development will provide 16 research suites of 100 sq m, each containing laboratory and write up accommodation. Each suite can be readily combined with adjacent suites to provide larger research areas for expanding businesses.
Collaboration is encouraged and the centre provides a range of interaction spaces including meeting rooms and networking areas for both formal and ad hoc meetings as well as a public exhibition area, and café.
In order to support these companies, the Liverpool Life Sciences Accelerator offers a Business Support and Commercialisation Centre, bookable office spaces, meeting and boardrooms as well as conference facilities.
after reading how much and how big other unis are investing at the moment, what are the investment plans of this city´s unis for the coming years?
is the business school fit enough?
Looks like some very pleasant hard and soft landscaping around this one, I've just spotted some very nice looking benches (possibly stone) about to be placed near the front entrance. I also suspect this will soon be visible in all its glory as workers were this morning draining the plastic separating bollards of water.
Looks like a rebel alliance EF76 Frigate in that first picture. I've said it before, but buildings looking like space ships can never, ever be a bad thing.
