Mangaluru: Railway orders investigation into Hoons graffiti incident
Mangaluru, Aug 22: Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd has told the Railway Protection Force to investigate the Hoons graffiti incident which was detected on Saturday August 21 on two coaches of Madgaon-Mangaluru Central-Madgaon diesel multiple unit train.

Though the graffiti was seen outside the train which did not damage the coaches in any way, the railways has taken the matter very seriously. It believes that the incident is a serious threat to the security of trains and railway properties.

It should be remembered that no advertisements are allowed on train coaches without the permission from the Indian Railways.

The graffiti was noticed when the train (No 70105) arrived at Mangaluru Central Railway Station from Madgao on Saturday afternoon. Throughout the journey from Madgao, no one had brought the matter to the notice of railways probably because they must have taken it is an advertisement.

Two coaches of the train had ‘Hoons’ word written on them. Spray painting was used to paint the graffiti.

Railway officials believe that the mischief must have been carried out at Madgaon where the train is parked. They said that considerable time is required to do such graffiti.

Railway officials said that fresh paint will be applied to the affected coaches while the investigation is being done. They also revealed that

Rail Hoons’ graffiti on the Madgaon-Mangaluru train is the fourth such incident reported in a week.

The first incident was reported in Thiruchirapalli Railway Yard where three coaches were defaced. The next incident was reported on August 16 at Shoranur in Kerala where two of the five coaches of an Accident Relief Train stationed at the yard were defaced. The third incident came to light when the Dhanbad-Alappuzha Express that arrived at Shoranur on August 19.

Seems like a statement in haste. When was Gulbarga a part of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh? . It was only part of Hyderabad shahi under Nizams rule. Post formation of individual states, Gulbarga was included in KA and was nowhere associated with AP.

City to B'luru in 3 hrs? Talgo can do the trick

X-Posting

Quote:
CHENNAI: Can the 360-km train journey between Chennai and Bengaluru be covered in three hours or less? If Southern Railway officials are to be believed, this is possible with the present track and signalling infrastructure if the Spanish-make Talgo coaches run on the route.

Indian Railways has so far conducted speed trials of Talgo coaches on two sectors, the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani route and the Mathura-Palwal line in northern India with reasonable degrees of success. The Talgo coaches can clock speeds ranging from 130kmph to 180kmph. Currently, the fastest train trip from Chennai to Bengaluru is a ride of four hours and forty minutes on the Shatabdi Express.

Made of aluminium, Talgo coaches are lighter and have a superior suspension which hold the train firm on curves, a senior railway official said. "This essentially means that compared to trains with regular coaches, the train with a Talgo coach can run faster on bends. Due to its lighter weight, it will accelerate faster when pulled by the existing locomotives," the official said.

Sustained higher speeds on curves are necessary on the Chennai-Bengaluru route where bends are many. During recent trials conducted by a Chinese railway company to convert the route into a semi-high speed sector (where the average speed is 160kmph), it was found that the train had to slow down at the curves which reduced the average speed substantially.

Interestingly, in December 2014, P K Mishra, the Chennai divisional railway manager (DRM), who is now the zone's additional general manager (AGM), had conducted a successful speed trial of 130kmph in an inspection coach on the Chennai-Gudur and Chennai-Arakkonam lines. Despite its success, the details of the trial were never made public, sources said. "This showed that the tracks are strong enough for trains at that speed," an official in the Chennai division said.

A total of 691 Special Trains were run during Krishna Pushkaram-2016 by SCR, 295 more than what were run for Krishna Pushkaram-2004. The revenue earnings touched Rs. 47 Crore (Appox.). In addition to the special trains, 4871 coaches were augmented by various trains, over 200 % increase as compared to the previous Krishna Pushkaram.

All the arrangements in terms of passenger facilities / amenities such as temporary / additional waiting sheds, Ticketing Counters, Toilets, Drinking water, Cafeteria, Enquiry Counters, Medical Aid, Wheel Chairs, CCTV surveillance system, Public Announcement System etc., were made to serve the needs of the rail using pilgrims at the identified stations at a cost of Rs.35 Crore. With a view to cater the traffic rush, Special Trains were scheduled, extra coaches attached and temporary stoppages provided several long distance trains.
The introduction of Mobile Ticket Booking & Enquiry Vans stationed at various Pushkar Ghats and GPRS based Hand Held Mobile Terminals for issue of rail Tickets proved a boon for the rail users. 2000 additional Railway personnel were deputed for temporary duty during Krishna Pushkaram period, who included 1250 Railway Protection Force (RPF) and 450 Commercial staff. In addition, 600 contract staff were deployed to handle cleanliness work etc., all these preparations undertaken in advance borne excellent results, deriving appreciation for SCR from all quarters. Extensive publicity of Special Trains and other amenities in place was undertaken through Print, Electronic and Social Media which led to enhance awareness amongst the rail users and ensured convenience to their travel plans.
Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Railways; Shri N.Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh; Shri M.Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing, Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting expressed their appreciation of SCR’s handling of Krishna Pushkaram Traffic by means of a well drawn strategy and hard work put in by the Officials and Staff of the Zone.

Work to rectify gradient between stations under way in Ballari

Quote:
The work of rectifying the gradient between Hospapete and Vyasanakere stations, which was pending for long and has been at last taken up, was going on in full swing.

As such the hopes of the people of Hosapete, Hagari Bommanahalli, Kottur and Harihar, of getting passenger train services after about 23 years, got rekindled.

Rectification of the gradient was essential as it was posing a hurdle for plying of passenger trains on this Hosapete-Kottur-Harihar route., which was steep with several curves for about 1.5 km stretch.

Though the line between Hosapete-Kottur-Harihar was ready, the railway authorities had not taken a decision to ply passenger train beyond Kottur towards Hosapete, keeping in view the safety aspects, because of the gradient. However, goods trains were being plied since June this year.

The ongoing work of realigning the track to rectify gradient and also the curves was expected to be completed in a couple of days as heavy machineries and earth movers have been pressed into service to accelerate the pace of work.

Later, the works of signalling, electrification and others technical in nature would be taken up and was likely to be completed in about 45 days.

“We can hope that passenger train on this route will start plying in a couple of months once the rectification work is completed and inspection done by Commissioner for Safety,” B. Sriramulu, MP, told presspersons after inspecting the ongoing works on Tuesday.

Mr. Sriramulu also informed that the Railways has already approved the work of constructing a rail over bridge at Anantashayana Gudi gate being taken up. The RoB was essential for the smooth movement of vehicular traffic of tourists visiting Hampi.

Cabinet nod for Rs.27,000 cr. roads and railways projects

http://www.thehindu.com/business/Ind...cle9026950.ece

The railway expansion programme includes nine projects involving 1,937 km of track construction

The Centre gave its green signal for investments worth more than Rs.27,000 crore in new highways and railway lines across the country to boost economic growth.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved infrastructure projects worth Rs.27,328 crore for expansion of railway lines in 11 states and development of 1,120 km national highways in five states.

“The Cabinet decisions are a continuation of the government’s commitment to support infrastructure development particularly expanding the national highways beyond the existing ones,” said Manish Agarwal, partner and leader, infrastructure, PwC India. “This will augur well for passenger and freight movement and is very positive for the infrastructure sector, he said.

Infrastructure boost
The government plans to increase its investments in the infrastructure sector. About 8,300 kilometres of roads involving more than Rs.1 lakh crore investments were revived, said Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his Budget speech. Total investments earmarked in the current fiscal for roads and railways sectors amounts to Rs.2.18 lakh crore. The Centre is also augmenting port capacity by developing greenfield projects in both eastern and western coasts. In the aviation sector, the Centre plans to revive torpid airports.

The railway expansion programme includes nine projects involving 1,937 km of track construction at an estimated cost of Rs.20,867 crore. The projects include construction of second railway line between New Bongaigaon and Kamakhya in Assam. The government also gave its approval to build third and fourth railway line projects on the North South and East West Corridors of the Golden Quadrilateral.

The Railway Ministry said the “fully saturated” Golden Quadrilateral will get a “big boost” helping in transportation of coal, minerals, steel and other commodities. This will also enable transportation of more passengers along these routes.

“At present, the number of passengers and goods trains in the Golden Quadrilateral section is far more than its capacity resulting in heavy detention. These projects are essentially required for removing capacity constraints, reducing detention and for traffic growth,” the Railway Ministry said.

Among the projects approved are third railway lines between Kharagpur and Adityapur (Jharkhand), Itarsi and Nagpur (Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra), Ballarshah and Kazipet (Maharashtra and Telangana) and Vijayawada and Gudur (Andhra Pradesh).

Similar third railway lines will also be built between Rajnandgaon-Nagpur (Kalumna) in Chhattisgarh and Gondia, Bhandara and Nagpur Districts of Maharashtra, Mathura and Jhansi and Jhansi and Bina in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

Besides, the CCEA has also given its nod to construction of fourth railway line between Jharsuguda and Bilaspur (Odisha and Chattisgarh). The construction of these railway lines is expected to be completed in four to six years.
