NUT predicts a return to Liverpool after successful conference
THE National Union of Teachers today predicted a swift return to a “wonderful” Liverpool after the city again bowled them over during its annual conference. The city’s acknowledgement came as the union issued a rallying call to Merseyside teachers to stage a mass walkout as part of a planned north west-wide strike on June 27 over pay, pensions and conditions. Since March 29 the union and an estimated 1,250 delegates and guest speakers descended on Liverpool for its annual five-day conference at the BT Convention Centre. Experts predicted the event would generate around £3m for the city. NUT General Secretary Christine Blower said: “This is the second time we’ve been here in recent years and no doubt we will return.” Read more: Liverpool Echo http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liver...#ixzz2POIcWJ41

Other than Primal Scream that is an awful line up for 5live to bring to here. Robbie Savage, Jason Roberts and Darren Fletcher. Would anyone pay to hear these men speak?

Trio of teaching conferences generate millions of pounds for Liverpool
A trio of teaching conferences at ACC Liverpool have generated £4.5m in economic benefit for the Liverpool city region. A total of 4,000 delegates attended the three events - the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the International Association of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL) - in the past month. It was the first time that the NUT had held its conference the day after ATL in the same venue. ATL, the union for education professionals, returned to ACC Liverpool for the third time, bringing 400 delegates. It held conferences at the venue in 2009 and 2011. David Kimber, head of conferences at ATL, said: “This year’s conference was our third time at ACC Liverpool, once again it was a complete success and we had fantastic feedback from delegates.” The NUT, the largest teachers’ union in the UK, brought 1200 attendees the day after ATL, returning to the city for the second time after it first visited the waterfront venue in 2010. Karen Handley, NUT principle officer (resource management) and the Union’s conference organiser, said: “Delegates were once again pleased with the venue and its location in relation to accommodation and attractions in the city – all elements which make for a terrific conference.” A total of 2,400 international delegates from 100 countries attended IATEFL’s 47th annual international conference and exhibition, drawing teaching conference spring season to a close. The five-day conference included 500 sessions, a social programme and evening events. An exhibition and job market were open to the public. Glenda Smart, executive officer of IATEFL, said: “This was our first event at ACC Liverpool and an opportunity for delegates from all over the world to experience an historic and culturally rich city with a renowned reputation in the teaching conference sector.” Kerrin MacPhie, director of sales at ACC Liverpool, added: “Teaching conference season brings a fantastic buzz to the city, generating millions of pounds for the local economy as delegates from all over the world pack out hotels, restaurants and visitor attractions. “The flexibility of our space and team allows us to turn the venue around for events within a short length of time, which is an exciting challenge and one that we are always happy to rise to.”

Music and theatre stars including David Essex and Hayley Westenra coming to Liverpool ECHO Arena to celebrate the world of musicals STARS of music and theatre are coming to Liverpool later this year to celebrate the world of musicals. David Essex and Hayley Westenra will be joined by West End star Ruthie Henshall, Jonathan Ansell and Paul Potts to present Nights On Broadway – The Best of the Musicals on October 24. The arena tour is a chance to see the stars perform the classics from the biggest and best West End shows, including Les Misérables, Cats, Evita, The Phantom of The Opera, Caberet, Chicago and The Sound of Music. In addition to the five vocalists, the tour will also feature the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. David Essex has starred in numerous shows including Godspell, Evita, Footloose and Aspects Of Love. He also wrote and starred in both Mutiny and All The Fun Of The Fair. Ruthie Henshall’s credits, meanwhile, include leading roles in Miss Saigon, Chicago, Crazy For You, Peggy Sue Got Married, Woman In White, Oliver and Les Misérables. The mum-of-two recently published a book called So You Want to Be In Musicals? covering her 25- year career in the theatre industry. Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts made his first Liverpool appearance in 2007 when the city hosted the Royal Variety Show. Since his talent show triumph, he has sold millions of albums, toured the world and even appeared as a mentor on the German version of Popstars. Last year, the former mobile phone salesman returned to the city for a charity concert – and told the ECHO he hoped to spend more time seeing the sights. His rags-to-riches life story is being made into a film starring James Corden. He said: “I’m very fortunate to be able to be doing what I love. “It’s a very difficult business but it’s great to still be doing it at this level. “I’ve been lucky enough to travel around the world and see some fantastic places. I’d love to continue doing it.” Tickets for the ECHO arena show go on sale on Friday at 9am, costing £55 and £45 and are subject to a booking fee. Call the ECHO ticketline on 0844 800 3680. Obviously ticket sales were a little slow. That is a much stronger line up and would surely be more interesting even to a national audience let alone in Liverpool. |

How many shows does the Echo Area host each year. I saw a recent Pollstar world-wide ranking of arenas by ticket sales. Liverpool ranks in about #90, with 138k tickets sold. Glasgow sold c380k, Birmingham 500k, Manchester 1,250k.
Is the Echo Arena constrained by hosting ACC events? |

ACC Liverpool eyes international clients
ACC Liverpool will aim to tempt international buyers after the launch of its Advantage by ACC Liverpool programme at IMEX. The venue, comprised of the BT Convention Centre and the Echo Arena, will provide bespoke support for international conference and event organisers through what it calls the four pillars: event growth; managing risk; destination support and delegate experience. "It will get European and international event organisers to really consider Liverpool," ACC Liverpool director of sales Kerrin MacPhee said. "Advantage by ACC Liverpool is a raft of support: real physical things. We love our national clients, and we want to grow the European and international business. Events might not come here because we are a bit of an unknown. We have proved we can be amazing and feel confident in our ability to offer Advantage by ACC Liverpool." Support will come in the form of tailor-made programmes, from hosting exhibitor days and organising civic receptions to negotiating preferential rental rates and supporting pre-event marketing. MacPhee added: "It's not about getting the sale and moving on. This is about working on its event from inception." http://www.internationalmeetingsrevi...l-buyers-95759
