The project is not only important for providing link for New Airport, but also for people living towards western Rawalpindi and Southern Islamabad Sectors (G-11 to G-14 plus Nust etc), as there is no public transport in this whole area.

What is N-5 Interchange? Is it Kashmir Highway/G.T Road interchange?

If yes, then why they have split the project in 2 packages? Package-2 seems very small.

Yes it's interchange at (N5-kashmir highway-Motorway link road) junction.

They divided it in 3 packages, the advertisement says 3rd package wil be awarded later.
PM seems to be in a hurry, i think he wants to inaugurate this well before caretaker setup steps in before elections. That leaves him 12 months from today.

Thanks Faraz.
I presume that Package 3 wont be dedicated corridor and it will ply on Kashmir Highway and then on M-2 till Thalian Interchange and then turn towards Airport Link Road.
May be there is dedicated corridor again from Thalian till Airport.

What details are available so far? Length? Elevated or underground (or mix)? Number of stations? Expected ridership?

No it will not go onto the motorway. It will follow the main link road, that is, continue on the motorway link road through Top City/Mumtaz City and and up at the airport. The Thalian Link is to facilitate Cargo only, it will not serve as a viable link for normal commuters. As you may know the main link road is planned to be a 5+5 track and not a 2+2 Thalian link. Maybe they will publish that tender in the next fiscal.

26.5km and 14 stations is what is already mentioned.
There is a lot of confusion about where exactly the corridor will be on the highway. I expect it to be adjacent to the road similar to 9th Ave along G-9 since all that green belt space has been reserved for public transit, at least from what I learned in my urban planning classes a few years back.
Package 2 is very short in length compared to 1 but the reason is that as this stretch of Kashmir Hwy will be upgraded to 5 lanes each side, which is already done in Package 1, along with constructing an interchange where the Golra Road roundabout stands (hence NHA's involvement in this project), that means much more work in this particular package.
As for package 3, whenever they do announce it, I really hope its route is a bit more direct from the N-5/Kashmir Hwy interchange to the airport terminal instead of hugging the Islamabad-Motorway link road.

Package 1 is roughly 9 km from Peshawar Morr to G-13 (Golra Morr)

Package 2 is roughly 3 km from Golra Morr to GT Road

And the "yet to be announce" Package 3 will be roughly 8 km from Gt road to Motorway

In Total, this metro will be ~21 km. Interesting. The article says 14 stops, so I'm curious how they will divide it.
