IMO Chicago's skyline is the best in the world, ever since 2001
NYC's skyline has too many conflicting buildings, but there is so much harmony in this one. The streets look wider, too, and it looks brighter as well... I'm so happy that I will be staying near Chicago in July for Rock camp!

Go to the Chicago Cultural Center (former public library), corner of Randolph St. and Michigan Ave. There is a tourism information center inside on the left at the Randolph Street entrance. Tons of brochures about what to see and do. Enjoy your stay!

Hi.
So I have plans on going back to Chicago for Lollapalooza, went already on 2007 but it was in such a rush that we only found room in the Ramada by 47th and Lakeshore so now I'm looking for something closer to Grand Park. Any recommendations for hotels around the area that are not uber-expensive? And as well, where can I find super awesome deep dish pizza? The one I had before was good but not amazing. Thaaaanks

Hi everyone
I'm going to Chicago in late October this year, and we found online a place to rent some condo instead of an hotel. I found on the internet that it might be illegal or a fraud. Do you know something about it? The company name is "Steps to everything", I would put the link but it might not be allowed... Have you heard about it? We are staying at "Sky 55", near the aquarium... I'd really apreciate if you could tell me if that's legal, and if you've heard about the company or the building... Thanks a lot! |

CHICAGO OR SEATTLE
Hey guys,
First of all, i'd like to make two considerations: 1) Sorry for the mistakes i'll make in this text. I still have to improve my english 2) I don't know if this is the right place to make questions. If it's not, let me know and i will put it elsewhere. Well, i'm planning my first trip to the US. I can choose only one city, because it's kinda like an exchange trip. I will stay one month there. At first, i had chosen Chicago, because it's a big city, but not as big as NY. I like NY, but i think Chicago is more calm, but not boring. Recently a friend of mine told me i shouldn't choose Chicago, because it has a huge crime rate. I got concerned and started to look for another city. After seeing some pics here on SSC and based on which cities were available, i got interested on Seattle. It seemed a nice city, and it has some features i'm looking for (not huge, but not boring). Now i have this doubt between Chicago and Seattle. Based on what you know, which one should i choose, and why? Thank you very much!

Chicago's crime is mostly focused on the South and West Side which many people avoid with the North Side and Downtown being relatively safe. Do you have any idea where you will be staying?

Thank you very much for your answer. I'm not sure about where exactly i'm gonna stay, but it's around The Loop!

The Loop is the heart of downtown so you'll see many attractions, architecture and famous skyscrapers such as the famous Sears Tower. If your still concerned about crime, don't worry, rarely does anything bad happen in the Loop. Otherwise, I would greatly chose Chicago over Seattle, but still look into Seattle if you're interested. Your post on the Seattle thread said that you were coming in winter, which can be pretty brutal if you're not used to the weather. If that is a major problem for you, then going to Chicago would be a problem, but if still look into Chicago if the weather isn't that big of a problem. If you still have any questions about Chicago, message me about them.
