LHE got 739 again, I would be very disappointed if I were flying with them, from wide body to that? all flights to Kabul are with A333 consistently.

Airlines do not need visiting prime ministers to decide anything. They need passenger traffic and competitive pricing.

Cathay will return if they can sell competitive tickets and have enough traffic on some routes. How many people go to HK? and how competitive is Cathay Pacific as compared to say, China Southern or Thai or PIA or even Emirates/Qatar Airways?

Turkish may have used an A320/321 to ISB yesterday, the model shown flying on FR24 did not look like A330 at all nor 737, the flight did not display any data so it cant be verified, but some info on there says A333 was used.

The reason wasn't passenger demand. It was security, they terminated operation after days of Karachi airport attack. Thats why I said PM may give them update on current improvement.

Yes..It was right after the attack on Karachi airport.
PM is meeting a lot of HK business leaders and holding investment conferences etc.It may convince then to resume flying. .
They were doing quite well, weren't they?..until the attack..

Most people I know preferred Cathay to Banhkok over Thai, and they carried alot of cargo too, but have heard they were not doing well and were planning on leaving even if KHI attack had not taken place.

CX had also upped the route at times to A343, ocassinally 772 and 773 was also used, so not sure how true that part is.

61000 pax per year (or 5000 per month) is peanut for an airline. Airlines take lots of risks if the traffic is high. Surely, Karachi or Lahore or Islamabad is not more dangerous than Baghdad.

Cathay Pacific doesn't fly to South America either, nor to Mexico, flies to only SA in Africa, only 7 countries in Europe (no Scandinavian country or eastern Europe). Same was the case with British and Malaysian Airlines. MAS was actually losing traffic over the period.

Cathay was already on the edge. The situation in Karachi just happened to be the last straw. Had Cathay been flying half a million passengers a year, they wouldn't have quit even if the situation had gone worse.

Cathay can operate with its other arm Cathay dragon which has narrow body aircrafts in its fleet. Second thing is our airports should do something about the ridiculous landing fees. Honestly believe middle eastern airlines have concessions.

Cathay Dragon flights to south asia are all with A330, small aircraft would require an uneccessary stopover ruining their economics, because they would have to introduce additional aircraft type to the stopover destination.

With less traffic, it usually becomes a circular problem.

Airlines start with low frequency because traffic is low which in turns lowers the traffic further because the timings and frequency may not suit the passengers. A less load factor also increases cost which makes the airline loose more passengers.

It is cheaper, for instance, to go west to ME and then fly to Narita via Qatar than it is via CSA or PIA or Thai. It is is $923 by Qatar vs $1000 by PIA and $1328 by Thai. Same is the case of Karachi-Sydney where it is cheaper to fly using Etihad, or to Singapore where the cheapest option is Qatar.

It is not even funny for heaven's sake when it is cheaper to go west using Etihad and then to Bangkok for $486 (return) whereas a direct flight using Thai costs $646 (return).
