After the retirement of PIA's A310s, they have many more aircraft to use for that purpose.

When I went to Karachi - my friends showed me that the premium most land in Karachi was under ranger's control and they have made their own housing on it. Yet we blame, politicians only.

They could have started 'a shadi in the sky' service. Instead of retiring jumbo, the wedding parties would have boarded plane and Shadi happens at 10000 feet in the sky. : D

Lahore ain't going to become a transit hub. Karachi has chance but neglected. Islamabad can workout for PIA but if they're serious. What we need at lahore is an extension that can solve the flaws of existing airport. Such huge expansion is not needed for LHE. European carriers are not coming anytime soon. We will have only these middle eastern carriers and they've enough frequencies (more than needed in some seasons). The airport mostly handles 2-4 flights an hour. Such huge terminal will only remain desserted.

Karachi has very hard competition against UAE - why would airline choose KHI when they have DXB or AUH with the best facilities. New Isloo airport might become transit but can't say if LHE can be as well - maybe Tier 2 airlines will stop ?

Well, they wouldn't expand it for nothing. An airport doesn't exactly benefit the common man like a transit system or a road does so it wouldn't be a very good strategy to win votes. They must have some kind of aviation strategy in mind.

Currently the only Insternational Transit operating at Karachi is by Thai Airways on their Masqat - Bangkok Route, the flight transits through Karachi

Tier 2 airlines will only stop if you attract them with cheaper services. Currently Pakistani airports have ridiculous landing fees.

The airport is now in a congested area of city. A housing society is literally a stones throw away from runway. (Askari 10). I doubt it can expand to become a transit hub. A new greenfield airport in the south across Ravi river is a solution as proposed. Can be built by private-public partnership. Problem is current govt never conducts feasibility studies or asks for advice. Look at Multan metro, deserted all day long. 50 billion wasted just like will be with this airport.

Well that's what they said when they built the present terminal in the 90s. Remember domestic air travel is expected to increase at a fast rate in the coming years;so it's just not international flights
