![]() I keep trying to find some really good photos of Melbourne from the west, north west and north. The approach is amazing from the Hume, Calder and Western. Much to my horror a simple google search has revealed that I have actually posted most of the best photos from these angles. ![]() Perhaps I need to change my parenthesis to enable better long distance shots?? Mt Macedon is pretty obvious but I'm after those long country shots you see on approach before you get to Melbourne's suburbs. For those who don't know I now have my family concentrated around Bendigo and Melbourne's western suburbs (as an eastern suburbs person it's nicer than I thought), so seeing the approach from the Calder Highway has been a regular thing for me the last few years. I'd love to photograph it properly one day.

About 18 months ago I posted a series of shots of Melbourne's skyline that I took from various spots to the city's north, including Mt Macedon. Go back to pages 124 & 125 to see them.

![]() Something I've always loved about Melbourne's skyline which I've never been able to find anywhere else (except perhaps Adelaide from Virginia/Salisbury) and that is the contrast between country fields, rural and then WHOMPH - city!! It stirs something in me. I remember as a kid I used to read the National Geographic and one issue they had story about Dallas and a photo from a Texas prairie with Dallas's skyline, powerful in the distance. Since then I've always been inspired by these kind of shots. ![]() For the first time the other day I noticed Brisbane from a similar angle (fields north of the city) which is rare because most of Brisbane is surrounded by forests. The skyline became apparent about 30km north near newly opened land in Moreton Bay Council. Anyway love these photos and it really does make the entrance to Melbourne probably one of the most spectacular in the country. PS - that's just my opinion - don't shoot me

Those photos really give you a sense of how flat the landscape is around melbourne. Great photos. I love how different all of our cities are in terms of geography.
