City U - new building

Not the usual concrete monster.

But why so few south facing windows?

why it needs as many "south facing" windows as you expected?

it depends on the use of the building, in case there are many lecture theatres or for other purposes that external lights are not desired, then windows no matter facing north, east, south or west will not be needed. You may check the floor plans of the building in the attached document, or if available elsewhere.

Facing south is one of the best views in the world so building design should be optimised around the view, shouldn't it?

I said you should check the purpose of this building. It is a multi-media building of a university not a residential building or a hotel.

You should better query why a location of such a good view is used for such a "government subsidized" purpose but not sell the land for commercial property to earn more revenue.

Even with an arts centre the views could be used to enhance the design.

It is almost as if the Architect created the building without knowing they should optimise the south facing wall for rooms that need windows. If you are trying to attract world class education professionals then an office with a view of HK's skyline is a nice carrot to offer rather than a broom cupboard tucked away in the heart of the building.

I don't think the building is tall enough to get more than a view of nearby buildings.

Perhaps you know better than Libeskind.
