Once completed, this will become the tallest building in Plymouth - after the Civic Centre, and one of the tallest buildings in the region.
The site is in a prominent location, at the northern end of Armada Way, facing onto the junction of Cobourg Street and Western Approach.
The new student accommodation will provide 500 en-suite high quality student rooms designed to be fully inclusive and accessible. The form of the tower within the design has a layered splay approach and a stronger connection at ground level. The tower’s corner magnificently protrudes out of the ground with recesses on either side, which enhances its presence and becomes a celebration of its height and grandeur.
To top it all off, there will be a common room at the top...
Whilst not the greatest arse for a building its certainly a presence on the skyline from the hoe at this angle, get good companions & maybe mayflower house up as well & it’ll be looking good.
As this project comes to a conclusion a big article in the news today about its finished date, Apparently the bosses were at the topping out ceremony in February 2018. Anyway, that is when it will be finished.
Views from the sky lounge at beckley - the company who runs beckly seems to be a good operator - lots of positive reviews on google reviews. Compare that to aspire (comet store) - lots of issues I believe.
The great unveil continues, the third colour (Concrete Wall) cladding is now visible as the scaffolding comes down. Really like the contrast between the first two colours too (Afro Patina[green] and Light Afro[orange]). Will try and get a photo when I walk past
Just a little note....I did Google Beckley Point and went on reviews. It seems they are raving about it. I believe it will sell itself, even without advertising. The Sky lounge is a good idea, - probably worth losing the space for the benefits. I don't know if Crescent Point has one? You can actually ask them a question...as I am not going - I did'nt ask. Great views there as well. They are missing a trick if not!
Been reading some of the reviews that you mention Rick & yeah they seem to love it, would be nice if the herald could maybe write a positive article based on these facts instead of the old ‘let’s wind up the locals’ trick they always play.
I may write in one day and mention that the occupants are very happy there...and the building, its height, most of the finish and its lights at night are a great success. Never mind the "What....a monstrosity" (their favourite old round-shouldered word) lot who can't see beyond the scaffolding!!!
A nice building. The cladding looks better than the light cream wall we have now from this side. I was thinking that that white/cream render will not be well covered when the Mayflower House Tower goes up. There will still be plenty of render showing from the coach station area and particularly from the Drake Circus/ Cobourg St side.
Even though the building we have has exceeded my expectations, and confounded some concerns with the quality of the cladding, I think the the previous approved scheme looks superior in its renders owing to its smoother less cluttered mass and form and having cladding on all elevations instead of the rear rendered wall.
I believe the old design is the same as -Plymouth full summary of projects (page 1). I quite like the look of the cladding from the city centre (as opposed to the off-white now). But not so keen on the profile.
Anyone else having troubles? I was being lazy and copied the direct link from google photos, so don't know if thats an issue. Can drop them into Flickr if they don't work for everyone.
I'm always hoping to get "lucky" with a female student who lives at beckley (top floor), just so I can wake up and see the views. Perhaps if Im lucky she might throw in a coffee and breakfast, but that be pushing it.
In the meantime - local janners with tattoos will have to do...
I noticed the lettering has slowly been revealed over the past few days as more scaffolding comes down, managed to get a partial shot of the Cobourg elevation earlier before the rain got too heavy
