Just thought of starting a thread about bridges found in Africa! As everyone knows bridges are infrastructural pride icons of respective countries and usually demonstrate the advancements of economies of respective countries! To start with here is Kigamboni bridge (680m) to connect Dar es salaam city center and the Kigamboni peninsula that is to start construction this year and is to be funded to the tune of US$ 130 mio. by both the NSSF (60%) and the GOT (40%) (http://www.businesstimes.co.tz/inde...-bridge-project&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=57)
An approximate creek section between Kurasini and Kigamboni that is about to be connected by the mighty Kigamboni bridge
I was watching TBC special program on 50 years of Tanzania-China relations two days ago. There was a segment on Chinese construction in Tanzania and the same contractor for Kigamboni bridge showcased proposed Selander bridge expansion plans. I saw the render and I googled but nothing, so I will show similar design proposed for Selander bridge.
It is high time now that traffic flow at this one lane, 50 ft high bridge is regulated via traffic light mounted CCTV cameras or at the very least by our "immaculate" traffic police force.
Wachapa kazi wa TANROADS tayari wanaifanyia kazi tangu 2013:
The Wami Bridge is located in the Coast Region about 46.9 km from Chalinze junction along the Chalinze – Segera road. The existing bridge is approximately 88.75m long single lane steel structure comprising of 3 spans of 21.75m, 45.6m and 21.4m. The structure is multi span continuous steel trusses with a concrete deck and reinforced concrete piers and abutments.
The existing Wami Bridge is located at a location with steep slopes and unsafe curves which are noted to be the main causative of the dangerous accidents happening frequently at the bridge and within the approaches.
The new bridge should avoid the unsafe curves and steep slopes for safety enhancement.
