I did not know about that. But does that mean that Germany postponed extension of A70 towards CZ border ad acta and decided to upgrade B303 to 2x2 instead? That would be logical in my opinion, for now.

I think that the current status of Czech route no 6 between Cheb and the border is very adequate. It is grade sepatated and the bridge is already build as 2x2, which means they had in mind quick upgrade to full expressway ...when Germany completes A70 to the border.

R6 is, in the first place, a route connecting NW regions with Praha and the rest of the country and will not a major transit route soon. As 1+1=3 correctly noted, traffic volumes on the borders are typically much lower. The priority for ŘSD on this route is to connect the existing parts with Praha.

Traffic intensity is quite obvious - for example on D8 CZ-D border section there are some 9 thousands vehicles per day, which is much less than on many 1st class roads, may be even on some 2nd class...
So full profile motorways on border sections are IMO wasting of money. Largest traffic volumes are always around big cities - commuting.

Thanks for posting the map. The main reason for the difference in traffic volumes is the language barrier. The quality of the roads is a secondary reason. Think about how long it will be before virtually all working age people in CZ and AT speak English. I guess it will be much sooner than the end of the 21st century.

It's not just the language barrier. Cross-border traffic is always lower, to Germany or to Slovakia. Except for trucking, international trips are much rarer for most people than domestic trips.

Hello, I have one question to czech drivers (or any one else who knows it ):
Why is unfinished the stretch of D8 between Teplice and Brezina?
It is very important connection between Czech Republic and Germany. I read somewhere that ecologists were opposed to this project (I supose that it is a forest), but it is the real matter?

Yes, A70 ("Fichtelgebirgsautobahn") won't be built most likely. There won't be any plans for it in the upcoming plannings of new and upgraded roads in the next years. Instead, some parts of B303 will be upgraded.

It is the real reason that this section is so much delayed. Bad work of the planners which allowed undermining of the process by nonsensical stops imposed due to the green initiatives going to court.

Sure, most trips are under 10km, so of course most trips do not cross borders. Still, think about the the reasons why Brno-Bratislava traffic is so much higher than Brno-Vienna traffic -- despite that Vienna is a much larger city than Bratislava. I submit three reasons: language, road quality, and destinations beyond. Any other reasons?

20 years ago Brno - Bratislava wasn't an international trip. There are closer ties between Brno and Bratislave than between Brno and Vienna.

Part of the closer ties is due to language. I don't think the part which is not due to language suffices to explain an 8x difference in traffic volumes from what the gravity model would predict. There are clearly multiple factors at work here and we can only speculate about how their relative influence.

It should be 2+2 all the time. 2+1 should occur on the 5th of July.

Well, only the B303.de north of Marktredwitz will maybe be upgraded to 2x2 lanes until 2020.
The plan approval order for building the 4.2km long 2nd carriageway of the B303.de Schirnding bypass was already passed in 2008, but I guess it will never be built because the AADT decreases during the last few years (> 7.000 vehicles/day in 2006, after A6.de/D5.cz opening 5.200 in 2010). The 2x2 B303.de between A9.de and A93.de will not be part of the new BVWP 2015.

4 section out of 25 are or resp. shall be under construction this year.

I can't say for sure now, wheter there will be some 2+1 or 1+1 measures at the beginning of August, but I don't expect them now.
