Also, are there any renderings anywhere of Dunnhumbys building? I can't find any anywhere.

How is the streetcar progressing?
No renderings of dunnhumby yet. They are having trouble designing a nice facade that they can afford.

As for the streetcar, they are still trying to figure out what to do now that the construction bids came back over budget.

Metro set to break ground on Uptown Transit District
Quote:
Metro will break ground on its new Uptown Transit District on May 31, a $6.9 million project that will put four sheltered boarding areas in the region’s second-largest employment center, home of the University of Cincinnati and Pill Hill.

The hubs will have real-time information on when buses are going to arrive, be integrated with shuttles provided by the university and other Uptown employers and have rider information to help people find their way.

Quote:
LAS VEGAS - For the first time since its 2001 opening, Newport on the Levee is cooking up expansion plans.

.....

The expansion project could include up to 220 apartment units on the block north of Hofbrauhaus Newport. It is a surface lot that holds 323 cars. The project could also include a limited-service hotel of up to 120 rooms and a parking garage that would hold up to 470 spaces. First floor retail of up to 15,000 square feet would be part of the project, as well as “skybridge” that connects the existing Levee property with new buildings to the east.

Next for Smale Park - giant, glass-enclosed carousel
Quote:
Carol Ann’s Carousel has a nice ring to it.

So does the sound of $5 million.

That’s how much the Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation plans to give the Cincinnati Parks Foundation to ensure that the carousel named for its co-founder comes to Smale Riverfront Park.

The gift and further details about the merry-go-round will be announced today during the seventh annual Hats Off Luncheon of the Smale’s Women’s Committee on the park’s Schmidlapp Event Lawn.

Carol Ann’s Carousel should start spinning in May 2015, two months before Great American Ball Park hosts the All-Star Game.

The future phases will include 844,000 square feet of office/retail space and an additional 1,200 housing units.

As far as restaurants go, I would recommend the Moerlein Lager House, which is at the Banks right next to Great American Ballpark. Also, you really can't go wrong with any of the restaurants along Vine Street in Over-the-Rhine.

For neighborhoods, Downtown and Over-the-Rhine are seeing the most development by far. After that, the uptown neighborhoods around UC (CUF, Clifton, Corryville) are seeing significant investment. I would check out Columbia Tusculum if you want to see a different neighborhood. There is some really cool housing stock over there.

Also, definately check out Union Terminal if you haven't been before. It is a must see.
This article from the Cincinnati Business Journal talks about Phase II costing $60 million. It also talks about a $45 million hotel. Its kind of confusing to try to understand the full cost of Phase II, but it definitely does not seem to be anywhere near $600 million.

I was confused by that as well. I watched a video not long ago that broke down the cost of all of the phases and it said $600 million for the second phase. I wonder if they aren't including the costs of the parking garages?

Downtown apartment tower moving forward
Quote:
Cincinnati officials are moving ahead on efforts to replace the old Pogue’s Garage downtown with an apartment tower and grocery store – a project that seemingly hinged on proceeds from a stalled parking lease.

The city Planning Commission is scheduled to vote June 7 to lease the garage site, on Fourth Street between Elm and Race, to apartment developer Flaherty & Collins. The Indianapolis-based company would pay rent of $1 per year for 75 years, at which point it would have the option to buy the property for $1.

Flaherty would be responsible for tearing down the 45-year-old garage and replacing it with a 30-story, 300-unit luxury apartment tower. The tower would also include a 15,000-square-foot grocery store and 1,000 parking spaces.

Ex-SCPA site lands new Marriott brand
Quote:
The new boutique hotel headed to the former SCPA building in Pendleton won’t be a first only for Cincinnati – it may be the first in the United States.

Marriott International announced Monday that it’s bringing its European boutique brand AC to the United States, and The Enquirer has learned that the old SCPA site is among the locations in the pipeline to get one.

“We think it’s a really special building and kind of a cornerpost of Cincinnati,” said Tom Onken, senior vice president of North American lodging development for Marriott. “We’re excited to be there.”

Tom Wein, partner with Remark Hospitality Development Co., said he’s hopeful the SCPA building will be the first AC Hotel to open in the United States, with a target date in the fourth quarter of 2014. He’s planning on 140 rooms with an average nightly rate of $150. The old gym will be converted into a fitness center, the theater used as an entertainment venue and the library preserved.

EXCLUSIVE: City finds money for apartment tower, grocery
New grocery details, renderings unveiled

The city plans to use $12 million from a long-standing urban renewal district to move forward on plans for a 30-story apartment tower and grocery store Downtown, Economic Development Director Odis Jones said Friday.

Jones and developer David Flaherty, CEO of Flaherty & Collins, exclusively shared details of the project and new grocery store renderings with The Enquirer.

Downtown residents who have long sought a grocery will get to help shape it, Flaherty said. His company is bringing in an executive from a grocery chain to lead the 15,000-square-foot store based on public feedback on preferred products and services. Input will also be sought on the store name, possibly through a contest.

Flaherty & Collins will commit to keeping the store open at least five years, and hours will be 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.

Monmouth apartments planned
Quote:
NEWPORT — Demolition is scheduled to begin Monday on a long-vacant structure in the heart of the Monmouth Street entertainment and business district to make way for a new upscale apartment development, The Enquirer has learned.

The Millennium Building at the northeast corner of Fifth and Monmouth streets will be torn down during the next several weeks. Monmouth Row – a $10.5 million, 102-unit upscale apartment complex – will be built in its place over the next year. The Enquirer first reported the project in January.

Located just one block south of Newport on the Levee, the project area includes the entire 400 block of Monmouth Street except the historic Carnegie building at the corner of Fourth and Monmouth. Much of the block is now a surface parking lot.

Inside new Downtown apartment project
Quote:
AT580 – formerly known as the 580 Building – will take Downtown to a new level with a hip combination of residential, office and restaurants previously only seen in major cities, according to its developer.

“This is something that is done in Chicago, Atlanta and New York,” said Anthony Birkla, principal of Anderson Birkla Investment Partners. “You don’t have anything like it in Cincinnati.”

The Indianapolis-based developer exclusively shared details and renderings of the $41 million AT580 redevelopment with the Enquirer in advance of a public announcement today.

...........

The 17-story office building will be converted into 179 apartments that are due to start opening by the end of this year, Birkla said. Thirteen two-story penthouses will have 20-foot, floor-to-ceiling views and private terraces. They will each be about 1,600 square feet with two bedrooms and a den.

The rest of the apartments will be in the tower, where balconies will be punched into the south side of the facade and on the second, or plaza, level. The tower apartments will average 1,200 square feet and the plaza suites 800 square feet.
