Their sister project The Waves is OK but.........this is the most hideous development I've ever seen in Dubai. What's with all the wavey type stuff, looks like something from the early 1970's. Look at the last photo, who'd want their windows/balconies partially blocked by all this crap.

^^ If you knew how ... :runaway:

What's with all those outdoor stairs in front of the tower? Who did they think would ever climb them?

James Law Cybertecture create the Pixel Tower in Dubai
Inspired by moving bubbles within a Champagne glass, the Pixel Tower is designed as a 21st Generation X tower for the young and trendy of Dubai.

Situated at Dubai Waterfront, the residential building consists of 18 floors, is an imaginative and unique design to examine the quality of life through the appreciation of technology living and future aesthetics.

The elevation of Pixel Tower is designed to be a sustainable facade where the geometry of the openings minimize in the southern direction of the sun to minimize heat gain, and maximize in the northern direction of the sun to maximize views to the sea.

With the theme of young and lifestyle living, each apartment would incorporate the latest Cybertecture technology enabling residents to customize and control the appliances within the unit. The building encompasses its own customised high speed wireless internet communication system, residents are able to monitor and control their apartments even outside Pixel Tower through remote monitoring cameras that can be read from mobile phones and PDAs.

Equipped with Cybertecture to allow customization, the Pixel Tower is definitely the forerunner of building towards future living that embodies great design, efficiency, style and technology.

Work underway at Dubai's Waterfront

by Elsa Baxter May 25, 2009

Construction work is underway on one of the first projects at the Madinat Al Arab district at Nakheel’s Waterfront development.

Plus Properties, the Dubai-based real estate company, has begun work on two of its residential beachfront developments, Pixel Tower and Wave Residence.

“Across the heart of Waterfront, including Madinat Al Arab, Badrah and Veneto, construction and infrastructure development is progressing well, with the first residents at Waterfront set to take occupancy within the next year,” said Marwan Al Qamzi, executive managing director, Nakheel Southern Projects.

Construction at Madinat Al Arab marks the latest progression at Waterfront, with villas at Veneto and the neighboring Badrah district set to be handed over in 2010, Nakheel said in a statement.

“The fact that our projects continue unhindered despite testing economic times is both a reflection of Plus Properties’ strong fundamentals and a reiteration of our faith in the future of the UAE property market,” said Georges Chehwane, CEO, Plus Properties.

Pixel Tower is 18 floors high and has a variety of apartments, private villas and duplex penthouses. Wave Residence-1, located on the beach, takes its name from its shape and has nine floors with studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments as well as garden apartments with private pools or outdoor Jacuzzis. Both developments embrace sustainable design guidelines, are energy-efficient and aiming for LEED Gold Certification.

Waterfront is being designed as a sustainable city. Energy and water conservation are achieved through the integration of utilities in dedicated utility centres, where waste is transformed into energy to power the city.
Madinat Al Arab, once complete, will comprise of canals and artificial islands, and a series of districts with mixed-use including commercial, residential, resort, and amenity areas.

this is seriously one of the best projects that have recently started, exactly what the waterfront needs, however they will stand alone for a looong time in this area.

When I saw the renderings first I was quite sure they would never go ahead at all, but to err is human I guess.
