Thanks for the new thread Sudheesh!

Lets kick start the action with a few updates from the commercial arena of the city..

Arya Nivas will be commencing the work of their second 4 star Hotel adjascent to Malayala Manorama in Thampanoor. This 2.5 lakh sq ft, 12 storied property will have 135 keys.

Capital Retreat (5 star) is into its second floor.

A new high end hotel project is coming up on NH Bypass opposite the Infosys Campus and adjascent to Skyline Domain. This will be an 8 storied project and will be the second star hotel beside the proposed Accor Hotel (Sofitel/ Novotel) and Infosys. Not to forget the Hilton Garden Inn (now on hold) and the GOCHI Hotel proposed diagonally opposite this project.

Kalyan Jewellers' 10, 000 sq ft showroom is getting spruced up in East Fort opposite the KSRTC yard. Kalyan Sarees is coming up in Pattom.

Parthas IT Park
will be coming up opposite KV Pattom bang on the Highway. It will have 6 floors of premium space in 2 blocks.

Nikunjam Saras (11 floors) will share the border wall with Parthas IT Park and near the Home Decor Furniture Mart. So the Pattom-Keasavadaspuram avenue is getting saturated, and quick! With names like Raymonds, Bhima, Indecor, Nandilath, Sunny Diamonds, Kalyan and an array of malls and commercial complexes this is now a tall rival for the MG Road and other commercial avenues.

SFS will be having 2 more projects just outside the perimeter of the Cyber Palms. They will also be launching 3 X 21 floor project adjascent to Kinfra Film Park.

Sun Projects are launching their 3rd project Sun Royale, 15 floors, in Pangappara. This will be adjascent to the Desai project and will have highway frontage.

Ok, will insert the link. Did not do that since this is a sticky, and it will be there at the top to be seen by all.

And infact we want people to access SSC through its main URL, then go to the respective forums of their choice. I do not personally agree with having the link int the 'favourites' and accessing that thread only.

The main drawback I noticed about most of the regional forumers is that they never tread across other forums/threads. It is evident from the participation of the forumers in 'Chaibar' too.

Maldives chapter in Lashkar's terror plans
Vicky Nanjappa in Bengalaru

December 19, 2008 15:35 IST

The need of the hour is to maintain a tight vigil along India's coast, Intelligence Bureau officials told rediff.com

An IB intercept suggests that the Lashkar plans to target crucial installations like the Kalpakkam nuclear power plant near Chennai and the Indian Space Research Organisation station at Thumba among other installations situated along the coast.

Several intelligence intercepts and the confessions of arrested terrorists suggest that terror groups in Pakistan have been planning to target India from the sea for some time now.

An IB officer told rediff.com that the attacks in Mumbai heralded the commencement of the plan.

Hi,
It does not come as a surprise. These are the games that politicians play on the common man.The High Court Advocates Association is also a affiliate of a political party. We see the different faces that the politicians play on the common man by siding with the regional players to stay in the fray.We see it happening on a daily basis on issues across the state. We havent seen any major political party taking up the cause of Trivandrum high court bench with any of the rabble raisers who are more vocal in their protests and making them see reason. It looks like the political parties are playing it safe by making the impression of being pro-Trivandrum and working behind the scenes to sabotage the efforts. The political parties have a very strong duty to openly decry the opposition to this bench coming from any quarters, if they have any sincereity towards the citizens of Trivandrum

All proceedings complete for the High Court bench,Says Vijayakumar
Source: expressbuzz.com
Quote:

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Law Minister M. Vijayakumar has said that all proceedings for establishing a High Court Bench in the capital are complete. All the details regarding the Bench have been handed over to the Prime Minister, he said.

The President had earlier asked for the State Governor’s recommendation. Once received, it was given to the Union Council of Ministers, who, in turn, handed it over to the Prime Minister. After going through that, the Prime Minister had given it to Union Law Minister H.R. Bharadwaj. Now, he has to prepare a proposal and return it to the Council of Ministers. He also said that Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy and the State’s representatives in the Parliament should put pressure on the Centre to establish the Bench in the State capital.

Regarding the Vizhinjam project, he said that the State Government
had no option but to approach the Supreme Court after two benches of the High Court issued two different judgments. As part of setting up a Sports Academy for Women at Chadayamangalam in Kollam district in association with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the SAI secretary will be in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday to discuss the same.
Cheers!!!

An interesting article on proposed High court bench at Tvm

--------------------------------------------------------

Kerala capital needs HC Bench
Dec 19 2008

For 50 years, lawyers and residents of Thiruvananthapuram have been demanding a permanent High Court Bench with full filing powers in the state capital. The lawyers believe a Bench will save the state exchequer a considerable amount of money and win the government cases, it would otherwise have lost.

Then there is the Kochi lobby, which claims that if a Bench were created in Thiruvananthapuram, litigants from Kannur and Kasargode would have to spend more time and money to fight cases. “This is false propaganda, as the permanent Bench set up in the state capital can only hear and dispose of cases of those districts assigned to it by Presidential notification. In fact, when the principal seat is bifurcated, litigants of North Kerala will get redressal of their grievances at an earlier date,” expalined advocate R Narayan.

According to Mr Nair, the Kochi lobby mostly consists of those who have been elevated as High Court Judges. “Almost 60 per cent of the High Court Judges are from Kochi. And they still run parallel offices, which is unethical considering the fact that their firm could represent cases, and could lead to a biased judgment.”

The demand for a High Court Bench in Thiruvananthapuram is justified as thousands of cases pertaining to revenue recovery and collection, commercial taxes and service matters are filed before the High Court, and most of the head offices of government departments are in Thiruvananthapuram. A Bench closer home will ensure better coordination. It will help the High Court clear caseload and cut spending. The loss to the exchequer for conducting cases in 2006-07 was Rs 1,014 crore.

It doesnt make sense to put the ball into the court of either Antony or Vayalar Ravi.Neither of them are connected with the process in their capacity as ministers and the only role they can pay is to act as a Kerala Caucus to create a pressure on the powers that be.Which I feel they are already doing.

But we all know how Shri Vayalar Ravi, central minister for NRIs, used his powers to push for Vallarpadam project in Kochi and Shri E.Ahmed pushed his pet Kozhikode airport development.

Why not these central ministers from Kerala show even 10% of the same interest for the high court bench at Tvm?

Piling is in full swing for the Nikunjam project.

After a legal battle for the land, Condor is in the process of obtaining final approvals to commence construction.

A.K Antony has already done his bit for the vizhinjam project by sanctioning the defence ministry clearance for the project, something that was within his purview. The same cannot be said about the other ministers from kerala who cannot pitch in for the bench ,a subject outside their purview and they can only play the role of a caucus at some fora for highlighting the case. The real motivator should be the state minister for legal affairs who should go beyond politics and rally the support for the bench and get it established without much delay.Afterall the state minister hailing from trivandrum should have done that much earlier .It is all a question of oneupmanship among the political parties which is delaying the setting up of the bench.

One of the impediments for the development of the state, is the parochial interests that come to the fore, whenever developmental projects are proposed. We should be able to develop the state as a model for all others to follow, taking the larger interests into consideration.
As far as the High court bench in Trivandrum is concerned, it is not going to be a development project as far as the city is concerned. It is simply a matter of convenience, as well as saving of time and money for the government, instead of shuttling between Trivandrum and Ernakulam for attending the innumerable cases that they have to deal with. The people of Cochin should feel relieved that with genuine developmental projects like Vallarpadam and the Smart city on the anvil, they can do with a little less crowd in the already clogged Katchery Padi area!
