Iran's crude steel production doubled

Iran's annual crude steel production has doubled over a five-year period, says the caretaker Minister of Industry and Mine Mehdi Qazanfari.

Qazanfari said on Thursday that the annual crude steel output capacity of the country reached 20 million tons in 2010 from 10 million tons in 2005.

Talking to reporters in an inauguration ceremony of two steel companies in northwestern Iran, he said that projects are underway to increase the crude steel production capacity of the country to 43 million tons by 2013.

Qazanfari added that the country is importing about five million tons of steel every year.

According to the World Steel Association (WSA), Iran was the second leading steel producer in the Middle East in 2010 after Turkey.

Major crude steel producers of the Islamic Republic of Iran include the Mobarakeh Steel Mill, with approximately 47 percent of the market share, the Khuzestan Steel Company with about 23 percent, the Isfahan Foundry with about 20 percent, and the Iran National Steel Industries Group with approximately 10 percent of the market share.

I doubt that such a small factory or plant will have an effect on the nature.

I agree! This looks Horrendous! This coastal strip between the mountains and the sea is not so wide and this will be a big blot at the foot of the beautiful forested hills. Even if they put it on the edge of Gonbad e Kavous on the steppe it wouldnt have been so bad.

yes it will
the cement factory in Shiraz polluted half the city (at least when I was living there, don't know if they fixed the chimneys or not). Why build it there anyway?

This is definitely not pleasant to look at. They normally built cement factories where there is large supply of limestone rock and clay. Its kinda like the offshore oil rigs that pollute the water and ruin the sensory, but that's where the oil is. Sucks but .....

Quite frankly, employment.
This sort of facility provides jobs, no matter how horrible it looks.

Iranian Steelmaker Pleased with Rapid Progress of Development Plan

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's major steelmaker, Iran Alloy Steel, announced that its production development project is 71% complete, adding that the project will be fully completed by June 2012.

The project involves the addition of a third electric arc furnace (EAF) as well as some other equipment and will raise the annual output capacity of Iran Alloy Steel to 350,000mln tons.

According to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), Iran Alloy Steel produced about 255,000mln tons of crude steel in the last Iranian year (ended March 20).

According to the World Steel Association (WSA), Iran was the second leading steel producer in the Middle East in 2010 after Turkey.

The main steel mills of the country are located in Isfahan and Khuzestan provinces.

Caretaker of the Iranian Ministry of Industries and Mines Mehdi Qazanfari announced earlier this month that the country plans to increase its crude steel production capacity to 43mln tons by the next two year.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of two steel companies in Northwestern Iran, Qazanfari stated that projects are underway to increase the crude steel production capacity of the country to 43mln tons by 2013.

He also announced that Iran's annual crude steel production has doubled over a five-year period and reached 20mln tons in 2010 from 10mln tons in 2005.

Qazanfari added that the country is importing about 5mln tons of steel every year.
