How about BRUM. Birmingham Region Universal Metro.
Change 'Universal' to 'Urban' and I think it's dead good.

Birmingham Region Urban Metro

I can actually see people saying 'have you got your Brum card with you?' before leaving the house. Short and to the point. Now let's get the forum to copyright it and we can make millions.

Millions to spend on

Of course, it'd be an 'electronic' card...so you'd say "Have you got your Brum e-card?".

Greater Birmingham Metro, if any changes.

Why cause more confusion?

Because GB causes confusion with Great Britain.

But BRUM is confused with the nickname of Birmingham?

Or does it not apply there hmm?

Tram frequencies

To what extent could other Midland Metro routes heading into New Street be accommodated on the City Centre Extension without disrupting the planned 8 minute tram frequencies on the New Street to Wolverhampton St. Georges line?

Err... Brum is the nickname of Birmingham so it's a functional pun. It's brilliant.

'GBMetro' sounds like you can travel to anywhere in Great Britain on the tram.

Brum is a terrible name. Name any city in the world which names it's transport after it's own name... i bet you won't find more than 2 if any.

It's officially just "Metrolink", not Manchester Metrolink.

And Glasgow subway is no longer it's official name. It is merely "Subway", and the stations are almost all branded as SPT Subway.

It's not a competition ffs. I was simply pointing out a couple of errors in what you said.

Sheesh.

Perhaps i should have added nicknamed instead of named fashioned on B.R.U.M (birmingham regional urban metro) what's the point of such a name other than to appease the region... it's not distinctive and is confused with the nickname. Same goes for the Swift Card... lack of creativity in this city.

Info on another project:

http://www.expressandstar.com/news/t...n-tram-tracks/

The £11m reconfiguration of the road network is now merely a £5m replacement of tracks with no change to the layout.

BRUM is a nickname.

The ones you have quoted are the actual names of those cities.

Equivalent would be Scouse Metro, Manc Metro etc which aren't called that as they obviously sound stupid.

IMO Geordie Line would be a great name for the Tyne and Wear metro. But you can't just bring up "Scouse Metro" and say that because that sounds stupid BRUM does.

Actually Manx would be a great name too. Man-Express, but sounds like Mancs. I like it.
