Some good news from the Port of Gothenburg:

New forestry terminal opens at the Port of Gothenburg

The logistics company RPG Logistics opened its new logistics terminal, specialising in the forestry industry. The forestry terminal receives paper, pulp, timber and other forestry products transported by rail and road from paper mills and sawmills throughout Sweden. After being reloaded into containers, the goods can be shipped by sea to export markets throughout the world.

The terminal is located at Arendal, directly beside the port.

The 20,000 square metre terminal has the capacity to handle 1.5 million tonnes of paper and other forestry products each year. This is equivalent to 110,000 containers (20-foot, TEU), which would be a significant addition to the Port of Gothenburg. Exports to Europe pass mainly through the port's Ro-Ro Terminals and exports to other parts of the world pass through the Container Terminal, APM Terminals Gothenburg.

Trains travel directly into the terminal

Double tracks, one of which is inside the building, make it possible for trains to travel all the way into the terminal. Designated roads facilitate road transport between the terminal and the port.

The terminal will also handle transshipment of import goods from container to truck for onward movement to trade and industry throughout Sweden. Steel and other forms of freight will be handled at the terminal.

New cruise terminal at Arendal

The Port of Gothenburg has built yet another cruise terminal. With the new terminal at Arendal, the physical conditions for receiving tourists arriving by cruise ship will be improved.
Gothenburg has become an increasingly popular destination for cruise travellers. The number of calls by cruise ships has increased substantially in recent years with new record figures every season. This year, 67 vessels will visit Gothenburg, carrying over 70,000 passengers.
The new cruise terminal at Arendal is 200 square metres in size and houses a souvenir shop and a waiting room.
According to Jill Södervall, head of cruise operations at the Port of Gothenburg, the number of cruise ships visiting Gothenburg is on the increase. "We need to welcome tourists in a pleasant way. The passengers first impression when they step of the ship is very important to their overall experience of their Gothenburg visit."
The Port of Gothenburg has two cruise terminals. One is in the centrally located Free Port and the other is at Arendal, beside the Volvo Museum, for the very largest cruise ships that are too tall to sail under the Älvsborg Bridge.
"Arendal is a pleasant port environment with a cafeteria, museum and walking area where passengers can move around freely. It is also easy to make your way into the city by bus or boat."

Some notable ships such as Queen Marry II, Seabourn Sojourn, Ocean Dream, AIDAcara to visit Gothenburg this year.

A German AIDAcara can be seen in the picture. The ship will visit the city 22 times during this season.

According to the arcticle, 'Västtrafik' to improve the railway connection between Gothenburg and Karlstad. Starting from 1 July the newly-built trains 'Regina' with both 1 and 2 class vagons are set in the line. While in December, the number of departures per day will be increased as well as the travel time will be shortened by a quarter of an hour after the timetables are changed.
First, the new trains only run between the towns of Karlstad and Trollhättan. When infrastructure work is completed in August, the new trains will run the entire length of the distance.

Allow me to show some fresh videos from Korsvägen, a major tram junction, just south of the centrum.

Gothenburg will be the test venue for a new hybrid bus with plug in-technology. Busses and charging stations will be tested in regular traffic in true city conditions. Project Hyper Bus — which was just awarded an EU grant of SEK 14 million as part of budget totaling SEK 28 million — began operating on September 1 [2012].

It is easy to notice that the trams representing several generations are operated in the city.

The double-decker buses serve an inter-city line between Gothenburg and Borås (a town which is quite close to the city and many people travel to/from there during the rush hours every day).

One reason for them having such a service with the same livery as the suburban lines is that the transit agency for Gothenburg isn't only for gothenburg, but for the entire Västra Götaland county (wiki link). So the city of Borås is still deep within the territory of the same transit agency.

That's nice! It's the first way that I see double-decker coaches in suburban lines (less than 100 Km).

Another example is the Stockholm Östra (station) - Norrtälje line in Stockholm county. I travelled by a similar bus in that line and the experience was like travelling by a city bus which is a bit more comfortable, plus the one can enjoy the views from the upper floor.

Åh, Göteborg..
This is a well-captured tram ride from Brunnsparken to Östra Sjukhuset (line no. 1):

Line no. 4 to Mölndal centrum:

The journey were filmed when travelling by the older trams. These kind of videos make me miss Gothenburg even more.
