Why was the usage of this tower changed from hotel to residential? Surely Frankfurt did not want to have too many hotel rooms in its area, or this is probably not a good location for a hotel, etc.?

would have been a great hotel location, right next to the fair trade grounds and a 10 minutes walk from the main station. however, the hotel chain hyatt redraw, for whatever reasons.

This is the perfect location for a hotel, but there are tons of hotels in this area already (the newest is being completed now literally next door). Apart from that Hyatt changed plans for a hotel - they wanted to open one somewhere else in the city and dropped the project. Not only plans for this tower (Tower 2) have changed though, but also the plans for the neighbouring Tower 1 project (now Frankfurt ONE, mixed use instead of office only). So we will see another hotel there after all (although I'm not sure if it is so good to get 10 or more hotels every year, despite the booming tourism numbers).

Being the only tower with a great design currently under development in Frankfurt, it should really be 50 meters taller to tower far above "modern art" nonsense like Omniturm and One Frankfurt.

The Omniturm is my favourite tower currently rising in Frankfurt! I think many underestimate its subtle, iconic impact.

Its also the single, current project contributing the most to the increasing density og Frankfurt skyline (especiallz as experienced from street level).

What I really look forward to in Frankfurt, however, is the day when the east rim of the park Taunusanlage will be lined with highrises and scrapers, creating more of a central-parkish aesthetic. That will improve the visual impact of Frankfurt skyline immensely from several angles and distances. Unfortunately, those project will probably surface first after everything else currently on the blackboard has been realized.

I fully agree. I had some doubts about omniturm in the beginning but it really grows on you. Also look forward to have this Central Park/taunusanlage thing, or neuer mainzer stasse/Grand Canyon feeling.
