Look like bad design by the architect, bad built quality of contractors and bad decisions making of hiring those two than the lack of maintenance.

19 walkalator baharu dipasang di klia2

Oleh SHARAIMEI SHAIK AHMEDULLAH
ekonomi@utusan.com.my

PUTRAJAYA 13 Okt. - Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd.

define short time? obviously poor coordination between the designers and client side for not installing the "thing" ...how can one build a huge airport and not installing the "thing' sufficiently ?

perhaps better late than never

KLIA bags ‘Large Airport of the Year’ award

KUALA LUMPUR – KL International Airport (KLIA) made Malaysia proud in the CAPA Awards for Excellence in Asia Pacific Aviation 2014 when it won the Large Airport of the Year Award.
The award ceremony was held at a Gala Dinner yesterday at CAPA’s Asia Aviation Summit and LCC Congress staged in Singapore.
Managing Director of Malaysia Airports, Datuk Badlisham said, “We are indeed delighted to win this award as it further elevates KLIA’s status within the global aviation industry.
This award acknowledged KLIA as the fastest growing major airport in Asia Pacific, reflected through KLIA’s 19% growth in passenger movements last year.
In terms of aviation growth, the Asia Pacific region is certainly thriving where it is expected that half of the world’s air traffic growth in the next 20 years will come from within this region.”
Peter Harbison, CAPA’s Executive Chairman who presented the award also said, “KLIA is a worthy winner of the large airport category.
It grew passenger traffic by 19% in 2013, making it the fastest growing major airport in the Asia Pacific region and the only airport in the region’s Top 10 to register double digit growth.
It has been a pioneer in attracting LCC transit traffic, an important new sector with huge potential and in May this year opened a new state of the art terminal designed specifically for low-cost and hybrid carriers.
KLIA has become a pioneer in offering a hybrid solution in today’s dynamic and highly competitive industry and in offering a new model of connectivity.”

5 months 24 million << current
x2 (10 months 48 million) << by year end at current usage
12 months 45 million << max capacity

So does this mean that in the first 5 months of operations, KLIA 2 had already exceeded annual capacity.

I'm confused,
Sometimes they say it's built to accommodate 45 mil pax with 68 gates

Sometime they say it's 68 gates are more than recommend number for a terminal accommodating 30 mil pax

Sometime they say it's a 30 mil pax terminal with 68 gates with a capacity of 45 mil pax after expansion.

Which one?

This is what we can get from MOT's website;

For the whole of KLIA (KLIA1 + KLIA2) the pax figures are ;

a) 1Q 2014 = 12,244,964
b) 2Q 2014 = 12,031,877

Total = 24,276,841

So me think the quoted figure must be for the whole of KLIA - not KLIA2 alone, eh !!

Soaring towards 2020
BY BILQIS - 17 OCTOBER 2014 @ 12:07 AM
http://www.nst.com.my/node/43629

MALAYSIA Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is committed to becoming one of the core key economic accelerators for Malaysia in its bid to become a developed and high-income nation by 2020.

The airport operator plans to impress travellers with its state-of-the-art infrastructure and variety of retail products and services at the newly-launched Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2).

MAHB managing director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said as travellers tend to make their first impression of a country based on its airports, the new terminal is a statement that Malaysia is moving in the right direction.

“Besides, the airport business multiplier effect to the economy is 13 times compared with airlines at six times. We serve nearly 60 airlines today and we have other businesses,

such as retail, logistics and agriculture,” he told Business Times in an interview on Wednesday.

klia2, which started operations on May 2, is set to become a hub for low-cost airlines in Asean. It now houses Malindo Airways, Tigerair,

Cebu Pacific Air, Lion Air and AirAsia, its largest tenant.

MAHB is in the midst of preparing a new five-year plan (2015-2020) as it approaches the tail-end of its current five-year plan dubbed “Runway to Success”, which was implemented in 2010.

The business strategy is to embrace change due to the growth of budget travel, which carries a different mix of clientele profile, said Badlisham.

“The profile used to be either business travellers or leisure tourists. Now, we have a mix of passengers with spending power.

“This middle-income group is fast rising in Asia Pacific. Airport operators in the region are either upgrading or building new terminals to cater to the new type of customers.

“As for Malaysia, I can say we are ahead of the curve with klia2,” he added.

The new business plan will focus on raising the non-aero contribution to MAHB’s total revenue in the future.

Badlisham said the increase in non-aero revenue was vital as it needed to invest continuously in the upgrading of airport infrastructure to cater to the growth of passenger traffic.

“It may also allow us to create new markets because we have the financial strengths from the non-aero side. The non-aero contribution may be bigger than the aeronautical (aero) revenue in the aviation industry,” he said, adding that the current revenue mix was almost 50:50.

The majority of airport operators’ revenue usually comes from the aero segment, or the charges that they get from airlines.

Non-aero revenue, on the other hand, is derived from non-airline related business, such as commercial, property and agriculture.
