The Bank in Low Fell has had a planning application accepted to landscape and open up the beer garden in order to serve food and drinks until 7pm (or dusk)

That's a good idea...I go in that area a few times a month, and the Bank seems to be a desirable place to drink.

Sadly they do merleb - We'll be there again this year. You can get tickets online or in mmm:newcastle.

Well worth it though, loads of producers attend and they've got more entertainment on this year. The guy who runs it, Mark Deakin of Hot Stuff Chilli Co is at the market at Monument at the mo.

Slice

Slice in Grainger Market is up for sale. It looks as though the owners are moving away from the area. Really disappointing news, as this is one of my favourite takeaways in Newcastle.

Quilliam Brother - Tea House

I had lunch there, second time i tried as it was full first time- there arent that many tables but the studes have nearly all gone now so it should be easy to get in till late september at least. Building is lovely- nice interior touches such as what I think were hand-made radiator covers(!), huge windows can make it hot if sat in them in full sun but a great view and experience. Service was excellent, tea (and im not an expert at all) was really interesting- they have a menu to guide you through (and they have a coffee machine). Food was ok, a bit narrow in some respects -as an aside why is pork alwys 'Pulled' these days and what he feck does that even mean?!

Its not a cheap option- a fiver for most food options (albeit they are a cut above most other options in the area), and teas/ coffees in the £2-3 range.

In short the Bros. seem to have lots of good ideas, it will get even better as they find their feet/ market, and it stands out in the market as a bit different.

The roast joint is pulled apart as opposed to carved.

That is a shame. I went for the frist time (I know!) this week and it was really good. Good value too. I'll have to go back a few more times in case it goes.

Already known about but now official with planning app in.

New £17m restaurant quarter at intu Eldon Square

Intu has submitted a planning application to refurbish and redevelop two of the malls within intu Eldon Square shopping centre in Newcastle.

The proposal outlines intu’s plans to create a destination dining quarter, providing 21 new catering units within the current Sidgate and High Friars malls.

The new dining quarter will be a covered family dining space set over two levels within the heart of Newcastle city centre, incorporating the stunning Grade II listed facades and views over Old Eldon Square, Greys Monument and the Grainger Town Conservation Area.

The new offer will bring diverse casual and fine dining operators to the city centre. We have spoken to many operators who have expressed great interest in the project, and are looking to use this scheme to bring brand new catering concepts to the UK and Newcastle.

Martin Breeden, asset management director for intu said: “Newcastle is a vibrant city and intu Eldon Square occupies the prime pitch with an annual footfall of 36 million. We want to deliver high-quality catering which will meet the high demand from our shoppers. Intu Eldon Square will become an even better place for people to spend quality time together and we are looking forward to bringing some great new names and concepts to the city.”

If any of the new operators need guinea pigs for training/preview days I'm always happy to oblige.
