No individual pods for Business Class? They're not flying this internationally?

What do you mean by pods? Fully enclosed? There is quite a good level of privacy already with this seat. Qantas does not have a fully enclosed Business Class anyway and it's not the standard (yet), only a handful of carriers have that.

I find the design of the cabin and the color palette subtle but very well-thought.

The all-aisle access ones that many airlines now use for their new planes. It's a standard configuration for legacy airlines these days. Even American Airlines now uses them on their new 777s.

Seems like all business class seat have isle access.
Perhaps you mistaken the premium economy seats with business?

Looking at the row 11 photos, seems they are not private. The middle 2 don't have the privacy that the AA J pods provide.

That's very surprising really. Two 787-9's would also carry more cargo I'd imagine, so there's a double benefit. Not to mention more frequency, which travelers love.

These aren't fully closed suites but all business class seats have direct aisle access.

That is pretty crazy .... the cost of operating / maintaining an A380 must be insanely high.

I agree with you with the cargo / frequency part. Passengers like that.

Frequency is not what Qantas is going to offer with the 787. That doesn't really play a role in ultra long haul flights, with or without a stop in the middle.

It doesn't? As someone who has to fly long-haul a lot, it makes a LOT of diff if it's a morning vs. evening vs. late night flight. Just my last trip, I paid $350 extra to get the morning flight.

I guess when A380's come off lease and are re-leased, the cost of drop substantially vs. 787. A380 doesn't have a huge market.

We're talking 17 hour long flights here, a morning flight becomes an late night flight somewhere in the middle.

That is actually premium economy on the picture. Look at the little armrest table and compare it to the business class table.

According to Qantas' seat map, row 11 is Business Class : https://www.qantas.com/infodetail/fl...2J28PY166Y.pdf

There is a privacy divider between the 2 middle seats which can be lowered if the passenger wishes. (As shown in the 4th pic)

Yes, which is still inferior to the fully-enclosed pods in other premium/legacy airlines' new J configuration.

With Qantas' Asia push, this product is only marginally better than what the Chinese airlines are offering, and less than CX.
