Metro rail should have concentrated on finishing the metro rail project with a hole to enter the central metro station. Instead they concentrated more on periperal activity like a shopping complex, skyscraper beautifying the space a promonade etc which are entirly unnecessary and wasteful of funds. If they had only concentrated on metro rail they could have finished the whole thing two years back. Just waste of time and money to make the area of central station unlivable for eons to come. Keep only to your job and do not get distracted should be the motto.

Only station developments are currently on - the promenade, high rise etc will come only later after the station is operational.

Nehru Park to Chennai Central and Little Mount to DMS will be operational by March 2018.

Entire phase 1 will be operational by December 2018. Tunneling works between DMS to thousand lights will be completed by December 2017.

For phase 2 there may be some changes in alignment and some may convert as elevated one instead of underground.
Connecting Chennai Central can take time and the possible date can be Mar 2018. But they should connect Egmore by this year end as the station seems to be visibly completed and only few works pending.

Also I am not convinced with 6 months duration for the opening of Saidapet - Thenampettai as I hoped to see it this year end

Yes, Chennai Egmore Metro station will be ready in 2 months if everything goes well. CMRL may try to open Chennai Egmore station ASAP before Chennai Central station completion. If they do, it will be a wise move for CMRL as well as passengers.

I think in Saidapet - Teynampet section only delay will be at Teynampet station(this station will be a cross over station and terminal station temporarily) as tunneling work(from Thousand lights to DMS) will be complete only by this year end, so just for a safety reason Little Mount to Teynampet inauguration might be pushed to next year.

If i was proved wrong i will be happy.
