Nice find Chuq.

Going to be a substantial improvement to the city once it is all finished.

I noticed that renovation work has now started on the old hospital in Davey Street - we are so lucky in Hobart to still have buildings of that age still available for respectful renovation.

I got the name off the Oct 2015 DA application, it could be that their website is out of date.

Window installation has begun; already halfway through second level on the southern face.

Starting to look much better already!

When is it going to be topped out? Already rising up the skyline.

Must be getting close, there's not a lot of room left beneath that crane cabin.

One more floor to go...curtain walling has started on the Southern side. Looks good.

I'm happy and not being picky or anything but 2 more stories sure would be good, would fill 10 Murray's place.

Parliament Square development marks major milestone
April 29, 2016 11:13am
ANNE MATHER

ALL eight levels of Hobart’s new Parliament Square development are complete — a feat which will be celebrated today with a final concrete pour and celebration.

Developers of the $150 million project, Citta Property Group, are holding the ceremony to thank the building team and architects for the achievement.

The Salamanca Building’s “topping-off” ceremony was a significant milestone for the project, said Citta Property Group managing director Stephen McMillan.

“We will also hoist a small tree to the top of the building signifying the completion of the structure,” Mr McMillan said.

“This is an old Northern European tradition which has become widespread throughout the Australian construction industry.

“We want to celebrate the achievement of all our staff — Hansen Yucken’s building team and our architects FJMT. Citta is extremely proud of the level of architectural, engineering and building excellence we have achieved already”.

With construction complete, builders will now make way for a new set of workers to begin fitting out the development.

The new Salamanca Building, due to be completed later this year, will deliver more than 16,000 square metres of office space to the Tasmanian Government.

The development, which is emerging from the ground behind Parliament House, will also incorporate a luxury $30 million boutique hotel.

The distinct heritage buildings surrounding the square are being restored by Vos Constructions and enriched with contemporary additions to create the boutique hotel.

The completed development will also include specialty retailers, restaurants and bars.

The hotel is expected to be opened during 2018.

I love issuing whingers with a smackdown. A comment on the Mercury article said: "...and accessibility is still being over looked."

I suspect not Rover but my spies tell me that there is a chance it might end up on the University site next to the Theater Royal later this year...

I hope so, it's one of the better looking cranes.

Assuming Hansan and Yucken will get the deal then?

I had heard that Hansen Yuncken have signed or about to sign on as builder for the performing arts centre.

My spies tell me they are definitely in the running...we will all know in a few weeks I guess. It will be an interesting project for them if they do get it. Tricky building so close to the Theater Royal but I suppose not that different from building so close to Parliament House either.

That curtain walling in the first image looks impressive. Will be some of the best looking buildings in Hobart once they are fully clad, I think.
